  2. That was an interesting article. I didn't realize that his wife Vanessa went through a conversion. I've been to Jorma's Fur Peace guitar camp in Ohio a couple of times and didn't know that story, but it explains why there are a couple of strategically placed Stars of David around the property.
  3. I haven't heard it yet. Just got it in the mail for sending some $$ to his PledgeMusic campaign.
  4. I'm heading to London town at the end of May (22-28). Any input (music or otherwise - and not limited to jazz) is welcome. I've done a brief scan of upcoming shows and nothing jumps out at me so far.

    Oliver Lake

Saw him in '77 at the Keystone Korner, but that was the only time. Would love to see him again.
  6. Saw Tomasz Stanko at SFJAZZ last night. The 4th night of their ECM Fest. Also last week: Chris Potter's Underground Orchestra, Vijay Iyer Trio and Egberto Gismonti.
  7. That was a good price, actually. Just a few years ago it might have sold for twice as much.

    Oliver Lake

I was shocked when I read that about his FIRST appearance!
  9. What Dolan said. It's almost easier to set up a Moderated Group in FB - and cheaper, for sure.
  10. You could check out Jazztalk. Some of the same members are over there.
  11. Coming to The Chapel in SF on May 10: Peter Brotzmann, Hamid Drake, William Parker Trio
  12. Most of the big online stores will let you return guitars if you don't like them. Here's the policy for Musician's Friend: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pages/45-day-returns
  13. Nice shot! Will be seeing this group at SFJAZZ in April.
  14. If you go to B&B around dinner-time, I recommend Gialina around the corner for GREAT pizza!
  15. Those guys are great--I'm actually playing there in September, just did a hit last month. Not an enormous record selection, but a great supporter of the music--we definitely need more places like that. Nice! Pete Cherches (who some of you may know) had a reading/singing gig there a year or so ago, too.
  16. Pi Day in Austin last year. A sky-writing plane flew in a circle writing the numbers of pi.
  17. Collectors are looking for sets that are out of print and are in very good to excellent condition. It's also critical that they include the original disks, jewel box inserts, booklet and box. Otherwise the price drops dramatically.
  18. Bobby Hutcherson Select - disk 3 Joe Pass - various disks
  19. If you find yourself in the Glen Park neighborhood of SF, there's a small book and record store called "Bird & Beckett" that has a small inventory of LPs. AND ... they have live jazz on weekends!
  20. An article in last Sunday's NYTimes about the AACM and this band/album. 50 Years On
