  1. Really the only funny thing about the 'battle' is how much those 2 guys look alike. The bit was...........well, a "bit". While I like Fallon better than Leno, what's becoming obvious is the SNL-ization of NBC late night programming. It's all the same now.
  2. This was pretty funny in the segment before - a 'drum-off' between Chad Smith and amazing look-alike, Will Farrell.
  3. That's the spirit! You're getting it because you have already run out of space. Yes! Good point! (it's complicated ... )
  4. I have all of those Tony's on either CD or LP. They're all nicely engineered and IMO very good to excellent performances. Unfortunate that they couldn't fit the live album in there, but the music probably wouldn't fit the 3 CD format restriction for "Selects". I'm thinking of getting it anyway, though, because my albums are packed up in the closet for lack of shelf space.
  5. I'll make sure to avoid contact with him at ALL costs!
  6. Those shows are at SFJazz, which has excellent sound. So I'd like to think they would do a good job with the audio during the sound check.
  7. I'm seeing Ceramic Dog next Friday and Los Cubanos Postizos (w/David Hidalgo) on the next night. Will be interesting to see the contrast.
  8. Good to know. I'll have to check that out.
  9. I'm going more for curiosity's sake. If it turns out to be a good show ... all the better! Ginger Baker - Yoshi's
  10. I saw them at my first ever rock concert in '68. They had a great light show. The headliner was pretty good, too. [Jimi Hendrix]
  11. Miner Auditorium at SFJazz has one row of seats above the back wall of the stage - about 15 feet up. They can be great seats if you don't mind being behind the musicians because you're nearly on top of them. They'll usually look up at you at least once or twice during the show and smile or wave, too.
  12. What about this?
  13. I have it DVR'd, but still need to see this. Meanwhile, I have tix to see him at Yoshi's next month.
  14. Herbie this afternoon - w/Vinnie Colaiuta, Lionel Loueke, Marcus Miller, Zakir Hussain
  15. June 28, Great American Music Hall, SF - $22!
  16. Saw them a couple of times at SXSW in Austin in March. Definitely worth seeing if they come your way.
  17. Busy couple of weeks coming up: Sunday - Herbie Hancock (w/Vinnie Colaiuta, Lionel Loueke, Marcus Miller) Tuesday - Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger (Sean Lennon)/Syd Arthur May 30 - Marc Ribot: Ceramic Dog (w/Shahzad Ismaily & Ches Smith) May 31 - Marc Ribot: Los Cubanos Postizos (w/guest, David Hidalgo)
  18. Tomorrow night. Read a nice review in the NY Times and locally in the SF Chron. Looks like Cyro WILL be with the band, too.
  19. Don't know, but I have tickets to see him in a couple of different formats at SFJazz at the end of the month.
  20. Ordered the basic Paperwhite on the current $99 sale. Looking forward to getting it tomorrow!
  21. Steve Backer, a Force for Jazz at Major Labels, Dies at 76
  22. I'm seeing them here in SF on Friday. Really looking forward to it! I don't think Cyro Baptista is with them on this leg of the tour, though.
  23. This coming Friday: The Nels Cline Singers (w/Scott Amendola and Trevor Dunn)
  24. The recent passing of Steve Backer reminded me of Threadgill's Mosaic box. I never picked it up, but I think I have to put it back on my radar. It's a little pricey, but I'm SURE it's well worth it. But........no hurry, I guess. [This set is on backorder and is expected to be available in the second half of 2014]
  25. I picked this up a few years ago but haven't listened to it much. I think it's time to pull this set out of "mothballs" and spend some quality time with it.
