But he still owns Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop in Austin - who else would still have large Lance photos along the walls? Also used as a venue for KEXP live broadcasts during SXSW.

LOVE to see a Magic Triangle box which would have to include "Night of the Mark VII" Agreed on Hill's "Shades", too.

Saw the SF Jazz Collective last night. They're recording their new album celebrating the music of Chick Corea. Good show - they're never "not" entertaining (I know......double negative there). Some of the pieces included: Spain, La Fiesta, Matrix, and Space Circus (with Robin Eubanks using some crazy effects pedals in his trombone solo). -
Get it together, Dolan.............I know you can!

I've seen him as a 'leader' a few times live and have been somewhat disappointed. Maybe the wrong night or something? The music just seemed to meander. Yet, in the 80's I saw him as a sideman with Marianne Faithfull and he was amazing. Having said all that, I have tickets to see him at SFJazz next month in this context. Should be VERY interesting! Tomorrow night at the Bottom of the Hill club - very small venue. #BOTH (Aimee Mann and Ted Leo) My friend is a big Aimee Mann fan, so we're going to check this out. -
You know that many of the tracks are the original jams that the final album was assembled from, right? And also that the final mixes are included on disk 5.

Donald Byrd at the Half Note is pretty great. Then there's the Tolliver at Slugs (if you agree to call that a "classic" band) I'd like to toss in Lee at the Lighthouse, but I wouldn't call that lineup one of his "classics" (no knock on that band, of course!)

Interesting. I hadn't heard about this. They have been experiencing some serious technical problems for the past few days (at least). Typically, they are very slow to fix, too.

I guess I have to go to Target!

Shocked show shut down over gay slur Leah Garchik Updated 1:54 pm, Monday, March 18, 2013 At Yoshi's San Francisco on Sunday night, singer Michelle Shocked pretty much shocked her audience by saying, among other things, "God hates fags and you can tweet that I said so." This came about halfway through the show, in the middle of a rant against gay marriage, tweeted James Patterson, who was at the show. Something like two-thirds of the crowd walked out. Even more horrified than the audience were Yoshi's staffers. The manager, assistant club manager, and sound production engineer who were on duty shut down the show immediately, turning off the lights and cutting off the microphone, said Yoshi's representative Lisa Bautista. An apology was made and refunds were offered. Tweeting started immediately. Patterson thought most fans were offended, but some seemed to think her statements were made ironically, but "If it was intended to be satire or irony, she misread the audience reaction in San Francisco." On Monday afternoon, Hopmonk Tavern in Novato canceled Shocked's March 29 show because of the singer's comments at Yoshi's, said Dean Birsch. Refunds may be obtained at the place of ticket purchase. Official statement about last night, and Michelle Shocked: "This was Michelle Shocked's third visit to Yoshi's San Francisco; her first was March 2009. She has never given any indication that she is anti-gay or racist in her previous plays. She obviously has some serious issues and unfortunately chose our venue to vent them." ~Derek Hunter, Artistic Director, Yoshi's San Francisco Posted to Twitter: WE AT YOSHI'S SF DO NOT & WILL NOT EVER TOLERATE THE TYPE OF BIGOTRY & HATRED EXHIBITED LAST NIGHT BY MICHELLE SHOCKED. SHE WILL NEVER BE BACK.

My friend DL'd the 3rd one from eMusic. He's always talking about it. -
Although I hadn't listened to him in years, it still came as a surprise. Sadly, his demise was similar to how Tony Williams died. Like they say, 'there's no such thing as a "routine" surgery'
