  1. I think that's about right.
  2. The long-OOP Rhino box "Cowabunga" was a great 4-CD set. Maybe it can be found online somewhere. Contemporary instro guitar bands to check out: Aqua Velvets Insect Surfers Mermen Big Lazy The Sadies have a surf tendency, although their music runs more towards the Byrds, overall. They did the soundtrack to the movie "Tales of the Rat Fink" about Ed "Big Daddy" Roth. All guitar surf/hot rod music. Look into the Del-Fi label for a lot of this stuff, too. The De-Fenders, The Darts, The Deuce Coupes - all worth checking out.
  3. Got my "Valleys" today. Haven't listened to it yet. Been hearing good things, though.
  4. FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! Happy 5-2 !!
  5. Not sure what happened, but they're now being billed as: "The Spence Clark Band w/very special guests Jerry Miller and Don Stevenson of Moby Grape" I wasn't going to see them anyway because I plan to see Big Star who is performing about the same time.
  6. Actually, it's the Robert Stack character (Sterling Hayden!) who says "Guess I picked the wrong week to quit smoking". But it's there ... There's even a bit with the hysterical female passenger where two people take turns trying to shake her out of it (although in Airplane it's an aisle-full of people).
  7. That was freaking AMAAAAAAAAZING. I had no idea they used that movie. In fact, quite a bit of the script and visuals are taken directly from Zero Hour. It's more than an inspiration, it IS "Airplane!".
  8. Now it's ANOTHER year. There are some interesting shows coming up, not the least of which are some non-new acts: Big Star, Ray Davies, Moby Grape.
  9. I've seen "Airplane!" about 100 times (well, maybe not THAT many times), never seen "Zero Hour". Have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up!
  10. Saw the Jerry Bergonzi Trio here in Manchester three months ago. Was very impressed, even to the point of being reminded of Coltrane of the Crescent period! Cool. Next time he makes it out to the West Coast, I'll have to catch a show.
  11. Me, too. I re-discovered them about 5 years ago. Just now getting into: Jerry Bergonzi. Very nice ... somewhat Joe Farrell-like.
  12. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news: Flight of the Conchords News
  13. David S. Ware - "The Freedom Suite" It's 4 tracks, so you'll have one to look forward to when your account refreshes. This is what pisses me off about the new e-music. It used to be that an album with four songs would take four credits. Now, the four tunes from Ware's album cost you 12 credits. That's total B.S. Not really BS if you think about the fact that you're "buying" a whole album. Why should an artist be "penalized" for recording 4 extended tracks of excellent music? If you're going to DL in terms of "value", it might be better to consider album length instead of # of tracks.
  14. GREAT show. So many good moments. It definitely holds up for repeated viewings. Unfortunately, I believe that they have decided not to continue the show for a 3rd season.
  15. Should be a nice album. Dee Dee is one of my favorites, as well. She was interviewed on NPR about this album recently.
  16. Exactly. I feel the same way. I'm sure those shows are "good", but I have no interest in the general subject matter, either.
  17. Erik, I didn't realize it was a cover, but I like it, too!
  18. Saw the first episode of "The Ricky Gervais Show." It's hysterical. An animated version of 3 guys (Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington) sitting around talking nonsense. For me, it took a little while to get tuned into their accents, but once I got over that ...
  19. "Audio Visual Scapes" is good, too. Both Directions and New Directions are outstanding. Lester Bowie was on top of his game with the "New" lineup.
  20. I've been to the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley in the winter, too. A great time to go there. There are no crowds and the scenery is even more dramatic. We sat in our car through a light snow storm in the middle of Monument Valley - fantastic.
  21. Ordered..............at Level 2.
  22. The Residents! Saw that Lee Morgan all-star show last night. It was a small (because of the Super Bowl), but enthusiastic audience and a very entertaining show. They concentrated on tunes from late in his career, but also did the Sidewinder and Ceora. Everyone got to solo which was great because they're truly ALL stars.
  23. Too late. It now says this: Temporarily Sold Out. More inventory may be available. Place your order today and be one of the first to receive this product when it arrives! ... and the price is: $40.99
