  1. My JJJ is #4872 - beat ya' by 13, Ag.
  2. I don't even listen to the small sets all the way through in one sitting. Definitely a prescription for artist burn-out.....and I don't want to do that with a nice, "complete" Mosaic set. Freddie & Clifford were on disk #6, I think. Sounded pretty sweet........but I wasn't giving it my FULL attention. Plenty of time for that, though.
  3. "Tromboned out" yet BF? Yeah..........just about (not that there's anything wrong with it). Have to cool it for a while.
  4. Yeah......that's a good one that I still haven't completely wrapped my head around yet. Currently: JJJ, disks 6 & 7
  5. Haven't DL'd that, but have DL'd this:
  6. Uhhhhhhhhhh, right! That's what I did.........yeah, sure.
  7. Mosaic order just placed - the JJ, along with the Dizzy & Chambers Selects. <sigh> Don't feel bad, Ag.........I just got one this week, too. From what I've heard, so far.......worth it!
  8. I don't recall any other Mosaic receiving such universal praise as this set. Having just got it yesterday, I'm starting to understand where all are coming from.
  9. Started listening to this. I think it's probably as good as everyone says. There's a LOT of music here to go through. My guess is that it will grow on me like the Thad Jones (3 disk) set did. Not a first round knock-out, but a slow growing set of essential music.
  10. I'm shocked..........SHOCKED!!
  11. Good stuff. Interesting, adventurous music. eMusic carries that label, if you want an inexpensive way to check them out.
  12. Since I just got JJJ today........disk #1
  13. Somehow I suspect that Ben doesn't have a "team".
  14. Obviously not a very savvy ebay seller. Starting bid: US $6,000.00 Buy It Now price: US $6,500.00 What's the point of doing the auction at all?
  15. Got mine today - #4872. Can't wait to hear it.
  16. Great! I hope it was good..........I don't remember, exactly.
  17. If that was a New Years Eve show, I have it on tape somewhere. I don't remember Jackie being on it though. Being 12/30, that would be the night before New Years Eve.
  18. I still have "The Essence of Mystery" on vinyl. Haven't listened to it in MANY years. I'm kinda afraid to listen to it as I might not even like it any more. BTW, anyone know who the personnel is? Al apparently plays several instruments, but not all.
  19. OK, folks. Thanks for the feedback. I'm ready ...
  20. Like all of the Rearwards it's very good indeed, with superb sound quality. Is this the CD or LP version (I've got the 2LP set version). Very relaxed music and some enjoyable Jimmy Woode vocals. Cool. I got a little worried because AMG gave it a fairly negative review. It's the CD version.
  21. Just picked up a sealed copy of "Comin' Your Way" at Amoeba for $6. I've never been a huge T fan, but some on this board have got me interested in checking him out a little more. Up till now, I only have "Blue Hour", "Cherry" and "Sugar". Other than the Mosaic, any other recommendations?
  22. Any thoughts on "Calypso Blues"? I just grabbed it at Amoeba for $10 because it looked interesting. Haven't spun it yet, though.
  23. I only saw him once and unfortunately I don't remember the show that well after all these years. But it was the heyday of the Keystone Korner and they had an Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers reunion show. In the band that night (12/30/1979): Cedar Walton, Billy Harper, Curtis Fuller, Airto, Jackie McLean, Eddie Henderson.
  24. The short-lived Julius Knipl radio show that they did on NPR with Jerry Stiller was very well done. There are 14 of them on Katchor's site (maybe that's all there were).
  25. I don't have any insight, but good to see his name on a thread. I always forget to read his stuff on his web site. I'll have to catch up ...
