  1. Starting with this album from Steve's new "Decade" box
  2. I have this 1965 studio album by the Sextet that's pretty good. Would be interesting to hear some of these tunes in a live setting.
  3. I like Potter. Recently saw a Zoom discussion between him and Miguel Zenon, which was pretty interesting.
  4. That was a good show. Agreed about Azar - he was in top form. Not as old as I thought - 66. Having first heard him in the early 70s with McCoy I figured he had to at least be in his 70s.
  5. Saw the Pharaoh Sanders/Azar Lawrence show from Zebulon in LA. It was very well done. The 2 saxes sounded great together, too. Although it was shown yesterday, it was actually recorded last month.
  6. Interesting Indie album. Lots of Velvet Underground influences.
  7. Jack White posted this on FB after his performance on SNL last night: "i thought it could be a nice gesture for me to use this blue eddie van halen model guitar for one of the songs tonight on SNL. the guitar was designed by eddie (with a few customizations i had added). eddie was very kind to me and saw to it that this guitar was made for me to my specs. i wont even insult the man’s talent by trying to play one of his songs tonight. thanks again eddie for this guitar and rest in peace sir."
  8. Missed the Bad Plus but plan to catch "mssv" next week.
  9. You know about this? Steve Wynn Decade (11-CD Box Set)
  10. I like TCM, too. Best for discovering some obscure film you never heard of before. A good companion to TCM (if you want to spend the $$) is the Criterion Channel. They also have a lot of the extras that you might get with their DVD sets.
  11. Understood, but if you like the 1960 Berlin album, this is a great companion.
  12. Ah - I missed that.
  13. I might be mistaken, but I think she "forgot the words" in multiple performances making it somewhat of a gimmick in the song.
  14. Seaver - Brock - Gibson
  15. One-off project by Janet Weiss, Carrie Brownstein, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole
  16. Those were Orrin Keepnews projects, right?
  17. VERY cool!
  18. Never seen that. Too bad it's OOP.
  19. I think the RSD disk includes many of the extra tracks. GREAT live album!
  20. Always an odd Doors album, the 50th Anniversary version includes “Doors only” versions of five tracks (“Tell All the People,” “Touch Me,” “Wishful Sinful,” “Runnin’ Blue” and “Who Scared You”) with the strings and horns removed. Also stripped-down versions of “Touch Me,” “Wishful Sinful” and “Runnin’ Blue” with new guitar parts from Robby Krieger. Interesting to hear these versions.
  21. Thanks - added it to my collection. BTW, just saw Shepp in a Jazz Gallery discussion with Ashley Kahn and a few others about the anniversary of Giant Steps. Very interesting.
