Tom 1960 Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 (edited) Disc #3 I'm really enjoying this set. The 3'rd disc features excellent playing by both Stanley and Tommy Turrentine. Tommy is someone I've mentioned in another thread on this board whom I'm really getting into. To have him on this set is just icing on the cake. On the track 'Rastus', Tommy really shines. Also the fact that I have little of Stanley playing in my collection has served as a good intro to his music. Edited January 20, 2007 by Tom 1960 Quote

tranemonk Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) Mp3 of Charles Tolliver Select.... forgot how good it was.... Funny thing about this set... I started with the intention of listening to a couple of tunes on Disc 3... now I kinda can't leave without listening to the whole set.... Edited January 21, 2007 by tranemonk Quote
ASNL77 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) The Complete CBS Buck Clayton Jam Sessions set (LPs). It should keep me going for a while. I have had this one for a very long time and I haven't given it all the attention it deserves. Edited January 21, 2007 by ASNL77 Quote
Tom 1960 Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 This Mosaic has lived up to all the hype and I'm truely grateful for those who told me to take the plunge. Right now disc 4 & 5 with help from Booker Ervin, Grant Green and Johnny Coles. Quote

jazzbo Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 The Lars Gullin Mosaic. No, wait a minute, it's the second half of the volumes in the Dragon series. Seems like Mosaic work! Quote
tranemonk Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 (edited) Well I have to say... I finally finished the set today.. and my first impression with the remaining 2 discs and overall is that it's a bit a of disappointment... I mean i've got way too many McCoy records but this set just didn't work that well.... I may change my mind but at first listen I was kinda bummed... the little bit of a trio session was the best part.... Just finished listening to Disc 1 of McCoy's Select... So far.. nice... Very different than his work today but quite consistent with the type of material he was composing/playing during that era.... Edited February 1, 2007 by tranemonk Quote
