My DeepDiscountCD order arrived today. I listened to the Emergency and the Frank Wright discs 3 times each while I was painting the downstairs. Tremendous. I love them both and if I had to pick a favorite I would say the Emergency disc just by a hair. Thanks for the recommendations.

I'm surprised you didn't order the AEC's 'Music To Paint The Downstairs By'. It's a super-rarity that even Chuck Nessa has never heard of.

Bertrand.

You joke, but until the promised Volume II is released my upstairs paint will continue to flake off the walls.

the emergency album sort of reminds me of some of wayne shorter's later blue note albums.

Y'know, I always liked the original covers, but now seeing the reissues and their splotchy funk in the stores, they actually do look really nice.

Well, after you take the outer wrap off, you'll have no info on the front cover.

I suppose that's OK in some circumstances - the artwork itself looks good, but it just doesn't work for me from a practical point of view...and wait til you get to the booklets!

Here, tell me which titles are these by looking at the covers:

Check the spines. :)

I "pre-ordered" 9 of 'em from cduniverse, checked tonight and see all 3 Art Ensembles and the Frank Wright are backordered.  :(

Got an email from CDUniverse over the weekend the my back-ordered Free America titles are in stock.

Today I ordered 5 of the 15 available from Dusty Groove at $16.99 each:

Clifford Thornton - Panther & the Lash

Anthony Braxton - Donna Lee

Emergency - Homage To Peace

Roswell Rudd - same

Frank Wright - Uhuru Na Umoja

More than half of the initial pages on this thread have dealt with the high cost ($24.99) of imports and relative Stateside unavailability of these limited edition CDs.

Well, now at least 15 of 'em are here and quite available. With an apparent 5,000 per unit limit -- let me say at this juncture: "What are you waitin' for, buckeroos -- saddle up and git yer asses in gear!"

By year end, please don't fill this topic thread with how you mighta, coulda, woulda, shoulda...

And forget the prospect of copping promos or cut-outs on the cheap.

Yesterday, cduniverse shipped me these four for #13.29 each.

Tes Estat by Shorter, Alan

Uhuru Na Umoja by Wright, Fran

Roswell Rudd by Rudd, Roswell

Black Gipsy by Shepp, Archie

I'm set for a while!

AFAIK, it is 5000 worldwide - the US supply is 1000 each.

My recollection is that most of those other Verve limited release CDs (whatever that series was called) were also 5000 worldwide each, and those were all available for quite some time (except that Marquis de Sade Lalo Schifrin).

But heck I just bought the Waldron/Lacy and Burrell, and soon I'll get the Art Endemble and Clifford Thornton discs.

Unlike the "domestic" Verves, these originate from Universal France. It is my understanding 2500 were available in Europe, 1000 for the US and the balance for the rest of the world.

can we get some more reviews over here? i am curious about how many of these releases are.

i really like the thornton and the wright and emergency are nice if i am in the mood to get a little more wild. the emergency i can take better thanks to the wah guitar.

i am especially interested in comments on the shorter, burrell and bley albums. or on any of them. any comments or feelings...

I heard the Shorter and Burrell once. I didn't like the Shorter at all (too cacophonous(?) for me), but I ordered the Burrell, as well as the Thornton.

There are reviews on AMG:

Burrell: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:eqf2zfs4eh3k

Shorter: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:yf1uak1k0m3x
