sidewinder Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I got a PM from Big Al once (back when I was sidewndr. I think he was trying to reach sidewinder cause I had no idea what he was talking about.) Does that count? Oh, I forgot to mention that I have met JohnS and Gary over here at concerts - great guys. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 So did you guys plan that, or was it a surprise discovery? It was planned. I was visiting friends in Germany and made a post here in advance asking questions about what vinyl stores there were in the Stuttgart area ( B-) ). Erik gave a great list of suggestions in advance, I pre-warned him of my intended visit date/time and - lo behold- when I was delving through the seam of vinyl he was at the counter asking if there was 'an English guy' who had called in. Funnily enough, there were two there that afternoon.. Quote

Talked with DEEP and Kevin several times (and once together) and with Bill Fenohr, the gentleman of the board who runs Billy Records (private joke). I have had so much correspondence with so many of you that I feel as if I've met you, and believe me I'm glad to have had the contact! Edited April 5, 2005 by jazzbo Quote

(god, I'm feeling old....) You must be old...at least older than the guy in the Avatar! Berigan! Flattery will get you everywhere! (I think...?) The avatar pic is from last year. I like to take my teeth out and play with them now and then. My mind reminds me (often!) of my age. Well, I just hope you have since cut your hair...there is only room for one long haired hippy on this here board, and that is me.... Edited April 5, 2005 by BERIGAN Quote
Jim Dye Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Talked with DEEP and Kevin several times (and once together) and with Bill Fenohr, the gentleman of the board who runs Billy Records (private joke). I've been to the headquarters of Billy Records! Bill Fenohr is a very good friend. He's the one who hipped me to the BNBB. Conn500 was kind enough to try and help me find a job up in Detroit. Things didn't quite work out, but it was bery nice to meet Connie in person. Quote
Swinger Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 If you guys ever decide to visit Finland then let me know.Maybe we could have a meeting somewhere around here. Quote
MartyJazz Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 (edited) I've met fellow southeast Floridians: David Gartner (dsgtrane) whom I knew before I became an Org subscriber Dan Gould (only 7 miles away and very adept at transferring private open reel tape broadcasts to CD-Rs on the PC) Evan Marks (Bright Moments) at a concert in Fort Lauderdale a year or so ago. I've also met: Jeff Krow (jazzkrow) and wife in Portland, OR when we visited the northwest this past summer and they gave us a wonderful tour around their city. Jack Woker (stereojack) at his jazz CD/record shop, Stereo Jack's, in Cambridge, MA, when we visited our Harvard student nephew a couple of years ago. Also, Michael Weiss, a wonderful pianist, is a long time friend from when my wife and I lived in the same apartment building as he in Brooklyn many years ago. Hope to meet more as it's always a treat. Edited April 5, 2005 by MartyJazz Quote

Dr. Rat Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I've talked to WD45 on the phone (it's a closed circle!), and otherwise it's only through the computer. But I'm already on record as being unsociable. --eric Quote
jazzbo Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 "Unsocialble." I wonder how many of us fall into that category? I'm not REALLY but in actuality tend to be because of my extreme introversion. . . . I just don't have enough time for ME ever. My wife is like that too. Because we try to, we have less of a social life than we could have. . . . Quote
Brad Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I haven't met anybody but as usual it would be nice to have a big get together. Quote
JohnS Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Oh I forgot to mention that I have met JohnS and Gary over here at concerts - great guys. Just Gary and Sidewinder, both great guys. Quote
Noj Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I've met the very personable and generous RDK. After years of reading posts I feel like I know many of you! Hopefully the opportunity to meet in person will present itself some day. Quote
catesta Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 I'm very impressed with how many of you actually have met face to face. For me its' only been one, Dmitry. I've talked with soulstation1 and most recently Peter Johnson on the telephone. Hopefully I will be having lunch or dinner with maren next week in NY, it would be nice if any other members in the area could join us. I also will be in Philly that weekend, if all works out, I hope to meet with Peter Johnson. Who knows, I may be fortunate enough to connect with a few other members in Philly as well. Have plans this summer to hit a few more places. Quote
slide_advantage_redoux Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 JSangrey and family (dog too) Chuck Nessa/Mrs Nessa I heard Michael Weiss a few years ago when he played at Dallas 'Jazz Under the Stars' (I think in the company of Marchel Ivery) and perhaps I have on occasion been in the near proximity of other Dallas area board members at whatever jazz venue.....? I also understand that there are other ex-UNT guys in here (from the late 70's when Sangrey and I were there). I didn't actually meet Mr JS until a few years back when we did a musical thing together at the old Winedale Tavern. Quote
Big Al Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 Man, it's amazing how many north-Texans we got around here, and how few of 'em I've actually met! Quote
king ubu Posted April 5, 2005 Report Posted April 5, 2005 brownie, I really should move my ass to Paris sometime soon... I'd love to, but right now I see no way I could afford it met in person: D.D. and mikeweil talked to on the phone: deus (& brownie, to duplicate his mention) not too many, and I sure would like to meet a few others! but then, at the rate of emails I exchange with couw, I guess that almost counts as having met in person (and drank gallons of beer together, too...)
