Hit of the Week

Sony does not own this label. Maybe the culd be included as 'orphaned' recordings. Like a number of tracks on the Coleman Hawkins set.

Archeophone did a very thorough 4 2 CD sets with it's complete output.

Not really, because some of her singles were written by other songwriters, and a number of Bacharach tunes were album tracks for Dionne.  It would be great to gather them all in one concise location.

Honeydew was the label that recorded Dave McKenna then made two LPs by spiltting his date with one by the Wilbur Little Quartet. McKenna told me in an interview "It sounded like it was recorded in a toilet and I never got paid."

IIRC, at least some of those Honeydew Elvin albums had exceedingly long drum solos, which made them hard listens for me, even though I'm a big fan of his leader work in general.

Just thumbing through this thread - This one would really be great!

Agree completely! Might be an interesting challenge to decide which Andy Kirk recordings to include, but I'd sure like to hear that selection!

Well, the tunes she composed/arranged, or solos on.

Apparently Pha Terrell is off-putting to some jazz purists.

Not any worse than Dan Grissom with Jimmie Lunceford. ;)

And I don't think it is so much a matter of being a "purist". Even tearjerkers can be swung (in a way). But I guess they were part of the repertoire (dictated by popular tastes back then) of the big bands (Black ones included) that they did play at live dates but that otherwise never got recorded (waltzes, etc.).

Why omit the three wonderful Muse sides?

Plus, add the Joken album to sweeten the pot for Kenny!

If Kenny wrote or assisted with the essay, you get an exponential increase in visibility!

Finally, all those great Tutu recordings in one place ...

would be easy enough to do the Japanese Victors as 4 CDs, right? Two solos, the date with Peacock, the date with Hino, Tokyo Bound, and maybe Spanish Bitch could be included if there's room?

Don't forget Bill!

FWIW, bassist Kiyoshi Tokunaga, who worked with Giuffre, is also on the Curran LP. He also played drums and trumpet, and I believe is/was mostly based out of Seattle. Not sure if he is still alive.
