hbbfam Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 Just mentioned over at Hoffman: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/NEODAI-173898 Quote
jazzbo Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 I'm not peronally doubting this is legit. This is a Tower Records Japan SACD exclusive release--cdjapan is acting as a "proxy" here. Tower Records Japan have released limited edition SACDs of ECM and Impulse material that I am aware of, and possibly others, legit licensed releases. This seems like a similar release. https://tower.jp/item/6160059/コンプリート・ライヴ・アット・ザ・プラグド・ニッケル1965<タワーレコード限定-完全限定盤> Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 Or you can buy the lossless download from Qobuz for $52. Quote
jlhoots Posted August 21, 2023 Report Posted August 21, 2023 Or I can listen to the CD box set I already own. Quote

Gheorghe Posted August 22, 2023 Report Posted August 22, 2023 I still have the 2 LPs, it´s very fine and goes into further directions. Agitation I think is a very fine track. But I don´t think I re-buy another version of something I already have. Would be too much for me, but good idea, sometimes I´ll go back and listen to those two old LPs. Or was it a double album, whatever..... Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted August 22, 2023 Report Posted August 22, 2023 Although I know a lot of people are going to jump on this, I'm going to pass. I have the CD box set and that's enough for me. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 22, 2023 Report Posted August 22, 2023 There's only 1000 copies so. That's not many worldwide. Japan is like shingles. . . it doesn't care. Quote
RiRiIII Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago (edited) https://vinyl.sonymusic.com/products/miles-davis-the-complete-plugged-nickel-live-1965-10lp-box-set Ship Date: January 30, 2026 A 10LP reissue of Miles Davis's legendary 1965 "Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel" performances, featuring Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams, is being released for the jazz legend's centennial, featuring high-resolution masters, individually designed LP jackets, and an extensive booklet. These recordings, considered among the greatest live jazz albums ever made, capture the Second Great Quintet in a moment of peak improvisation, dismantling and rebuilding tunes on the fly. The new set, cut from Mosaic's high-res masters, offers fans access to one of jazz's most mythologized live events after the original release was relegated to pricey secondary markets in the early 90s. Format: 10 LPs, pressed on 140-gram black vinyl. Content: The full 7+ hours of music from the seven sets recorded on December 22-23, 1965, at Chicago's Plugged Nickel Café. Masters: Cut from high-resolution Mosaic masters. Packaging: Each LP has a newly designed jacket, and the set is housed in a gold foil-embossed slipcase box. Booklet: A 44-page, 12"x12" Smyth-sewn book with rare Plugged Nickel photos and extensive new liner notes by Syd Schwartz and Bob Blumenthal Edited 19 hours ago by RiRiIII Quote

colinmce Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago Glad it's back in print, but the new CD packaging looks a bit cruddier. Glad to have the one they put real time, money, and labor into. Quote

Guy Berger Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago They should release the June 1969 Plugged Nickel recording with it as a bonus disc Quote

BFrank Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago I'm surprised they're re-releasing it on CD. I don't think it's been OOP for very long. Seems like something that would be for vinyl collectors. Quote

Set and disc are not synonymous. And FWIW, why stop there if that's what they were doing? Why not call the first nights' discs 1A, 1B, 1C & 1D & the second nights' discs 2A, 2B, 2C & 2D? It would have made just as much sense. Quote
