Yes, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart are phantastic. Unfortunately, they only played two pieces as a trio ...

I've seen them a number of times before, but they seemed especially energized tonight. It's been a while since I last saw them and there have been changes in the sax section. New members: Azar Lawrence and Craig Handy (who really brought the energy tonight!). Also, Eddie Henderson was not available tonight because of illness, and Mike Rodriguez (of the SFJAZZ Collective) filled in nicely. Can't believe the Octogenarian rhythm section just keeps on playing like there's no tomorrow. Edited October 19 by BFrank

Patrick Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 Hopefully David and company put on a great show and outdraw the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
ejp626 Posted October 31 Report Posted October 31 According to a short piece in today's Guardian UK (reporting on something in the Washington Post): Kennedy Center ticket sales for orchestra, dance and theatre performances are at the worst they have been since the pandemic, analysis by the Washington Post has found. Back in September, the Guardian reported that ticket sales at the Kennedy Center had continued to plummet following Donald Trump’s takeover of Washington DC’s premier performing arts venue. Since then typical ticket sales are down from 93 per cent in late 2024 to about 57% this year, according to the Post.
Hoppy T. Frog Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 And then they canceled a National Symphony concert (of several) I was lookimg forward to to accomadate FIFA (the world's most corrupt organization meeting the world's most corrupt government) for a World Cup draw.
ejp626 Posted Friday at 06:45 PM Report Posted Friday at 06:45 PM I won't comment on this (as that would be political...) From the AP: The board of trustees voted to add Trump’s name, making it the The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. Trump, a Republican, is chairman of the board.

Joe Bip Posted Friday at 09:04 PM Report Posted Friday at 09:04 PM "The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center" rolls off the tongue so pleasantly it almost flows like a piece of music in itself. /s
Coda Posted yesterday at 08:49 PM Report Posted yesterday at 08:49 PM Awesome! The name needed to change, I love it. It was a unanimous decision by the board too. 💪💕

Rooster_Ties Posted yesterday at 09:39 PM Report Posted yesterday at 09:39 PM We hope like hell to be fully moved to Pittsburgh (the sooner the better), before the unveiling of the rebranded “Trump-Washington Monument”.

JSngry Posted yesterday at 11:02 PM Report Posted yesterday at 11:02 PM Narcissism (or the appearance thereof) is not political in and of itself.

Kevin Bresnahan Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago If we can keep pictures and references to you-know-who out of it, we can try to leave this open. If it gets too political, Jim A has directed me to close it.
mjazzg Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago The renaming is an overtly political act (and stating that isn't in itself political) so commenting on it without being political is an interesting approach. A new parlour game for the holidays perhaps. Good luck everyone
ghost of miles Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Yes, and this very political (and illegal—only Congress is authorized to rename the Center) act contributes to the ongoing assault on a cultural institution that has championed jazz, so that has to be mentioned. Hard to keep politics out when it’s actively, quite deliberately shitting on so much of what we value in this country, every single day. In the meantime, I can’t imagine any self-respecting jazz artist performing at this venue again any time soon.
