  1. I'd generally agree but with one caveat: they're very expensive, more than Hiroshi and the Groove. Unless they have one hell of a sale going on, I try to avoid them.
  2. I have some cds that I haven't listened to but a totally unwrapped Mosaic no way.
  3. Hate to ruin all this love making going on but could somebody who has the set list the album titles or am I just being lazy and perhaps I should march over to AMG.
  4. It's in the SteepleChase catalogue and I was thinking of ordering it. If it's not available, I will let you all know.
  5. Slightly off topic, any views on KD's Short Story on SteepleChase?
  6. I'm pretty happy with the Cambridge 740 that I just picked up a few weeks ago. In fact, I was just listening to Bud playing Blues in the Closet from SteepleChase's Swedish Pastry. It was money well spent.
  7. That's actually Bradford but I'm sure I can come up with a short list of items. For starters, I've got a nice unopened Art Tatum on Classics and a Hamp and Getz. Please, one at a time, don't knock those doors down :rsmile:
  8. There's an obituary in today's New York Times. Unfortunately, I don't subsribe to the on line version. Perhaps someone can post it.
  9. What I like to use to do is not bid until the last second and then bounce. The other theory is bid early and bid what you'd want to pay and then forget it. Otherwise you get into a war and you pay more than what you wanted to pay for an item or what it's worth. Unfortunately, I don't have as much time as I used to do, so I just bid when I see an item and let it ride. But if it's something you really want and have to have, you have to be vigilant and be ready to bid at the last second, especially on rare items. A lot of bidders just like to pounce. I'm not sure I answered your question. It depends on your style. It also depends on the item. For rare Mosaics, that tend to get expensive, I say wait till the last possible second.
  10. I'm not seeing the issue here. Can you elaborate?
  11. I didn't even bother but I also didn't buy the conn so I guess I'm set.
  12. Jim, when is this coming out? Did this just came in from an email from Peter Crawford? Somehow, I must not be getting his emails. Anyway, great to hear. I'll be ordering tomorrow.
  13. Thank you for the answer Mike and good to see you back. I wonder if the Select will contain some of those performances. However, there may be enough in the issued ones to fill the 3 cd allotment.
  14. I was listening to Volume 3 this afternoon and the liner notes indicated that what's in the three discs were taken from "scores" of performances between 1978 and 1979. In his liner notes, Michael Cuscuna says that "these tapes are a welcome edition to the documentation of Dexter's wonderful quartet. Hopefully, there will be more to come." I don't know if he's referring to more Keystone performances to come or performances from his quartet of George Cables, Rufus Reid and Eddie Gladden. Does anybody know if there are other unreleased performances in the can? Perhaps if so, they'd be part of the Select that will come out eventually.
  15. A Profile of Gerry Mulligan (UCCM-9123) has these tracks: Makin' Whoopee (4:03) Demanton (5:38) Duke Ellington Medley (4:27) Westward Walk (4:22) La plus que lente (3:26) Blues (8:18) Mainstream of Jazz (UCCM-9094) has these tracks: Elevation Mainstream Ain't It the Truth Igloo Blue at the Roots Lollypop The Special Edition has all the tracks you mentioned plus Westwood Walk, La Plus Que Lente (master, plus unissued alternate) and Making Whoopee, which are on Profile. So perhaps Profile plus Mainstream are two of the 3 Mainstream LP. Not having a Mulligan discography that's hard to answer. BTW, does any one have a list of or source all the recent UCCM reissues. The reason I ask is that I don't remember seeing Hiroshi post these two cds and I'm sure I would have picked up at least Profile.
  16. The logical conclusion would be that they then destroy the books and any cds leftover. If that's the case how come there have been some partials left over. I don't know if Mosaic does this any more but you could buy leftovers that way. That is the way I got my hands on one of the Hardee/Quebec discs, plus a book. For this, I am forever grateful. Not for a minute do I think that Mosaic would follow the ebay route on selling what they had left over.
  17. I have the Gerry Mulligan Mainstream of Jazz Special Edition put out in Japan in 1986, and I have been looking for the other cds but did not know they were reissued in Japan recently. I bought it a long time ago and haven't played it a while but what a sextet! I know there were 3 original lps for his Mainstream of Jazz series. Does this recent Japanese issue cover just one (or more) of the lps? The reissue I have covers the September 21 and 26, 1956 sessions, btw.
  18. What the heck, throw my name in there too. Make mine a double.
  19. Deus must be the happiest guy around. Getting a gift of jazz every day .
  20. Oops. Really sorry about that. Belated congratulations to a fellow soccer (and jazz) fan.
  21. I've been listening to this and it's very nice. It's undestated but Benny seems to be a master of this. It took me a couple of songs to get into it but once I did I really fell in with the countours of the date. What impresses me is the rhythm section, especially Jimmy Rowles. He doesn't get in Benny's way and the support he give (plus the solos he takes) are just right. They all mesh very well. Glad I picked this up.
  22. Brad

    Happy Birthday Dex!

Did he have any view about Miles that he could pass on to John?
  23. I don't know about Evan but I am. Send me back in a time machine
