I wrapped up Schulz and was about to return to Ada, but realized that given it is a bit longer than I expected (350 pages), I had to read Reva's Endling (an interesting novel about snails, mail order brides from Ukraine and the pending Russian invasion) for a book club next week. So I will finish Endling (off to a strong start so far) and then finish Ada for real this time.

Matt's been working on a new website, which at this point is hosting a number of articles and links as a sort of "recent index." My understanding is that he doesn't want it to be a discography (Discogs works well enough for that, for now). It'll be interesting to see how this resource grows. Anyway, for lack of a better place to put it, here goes: https://legacyofmatthewshipp.com/index/ the interview from The Ideas Letter ("A Pure Act in a Dirty World") serves as kind of a biographical primer until a true biography is written. Enjoy!

Owsley Stanley Foundation, which stands behind the legendary Bear Sonic Journal series, announced that have tapes from Miles Davis' performance at the Fillmore West on April 12, 1970 - the gig two days after "Black Beauty" recording. And that they want to release it on CD. Judging from the post and the comments it's not confirmed yet, but, God, I hope it will see the daylight! https://www.facebook.com/OwsleyStanleyFoundation/posts/pfbid02vTTrdYZCNoad3LKPDzdMyNgbxLCnhiqfWF586FMXip5rgyiNxDADE4DDeQ93LUYtl

Well, I can and did make such direct comparisons in the same system.

I don't know many people who can compare different playback set-ups with such clarity when they were unable to A/B the two digital playback set-ups using the same amp/speaker combo. I know that I would have trouble playing a CD on my upstairs system, taking it downstairs to my second system, playing the same tracks and declaring with certainty that there were major differences between the two. My musical memory is good, but not that good. It works when comparing different CD masterings, but not the same CD.

To each their own. I had an Oppo UDP-205 til it died in my audio-visual system. It sounded good, but I have two other combos of transport and DAC that sound considerably better in my systems and rooms.
