I don't have all of Zoot's output on Pablo (missing the Ellington and Lady Day albums + the Harry Edison collab and probably some others), but his playing, as always, was very consistent for the label. That said, my own (entirely subjective) ranking would go something like this: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  5. Scullers in Boston is having difficulty getting asses in seats and has had to cancel a few shows due to lack of sales. It's not looking good for future shows either. For instance, I saw Steve Davis' We See band show up on the schedule and bought tickets in an instant. With this band: Steve Davis – trombone, Eddie Henderson – trumpet, Ralph Moore – tenor sax, George Cables – piano, Essiet Essiet – bass & Lewis Nash – drums; it was a "no brainer". It looks like about 36 tickets have sold for the 7:00 show & about 14 tickets to the 9:00 show: https://www.ticketweb.com/event/steve-davis-and-the-we-scullers-jazz-club-tickets/14172394. If that stays the same, that show is likely going to be cancelled too. Kinda bums me out.

  13. Paul Gonsalves Quartet “Boom-Jackie-Boom-Chick” Monkey Dog cd followed by “Keith & Donna” Round Records LP Keith and Donna Godchaux, 1975, with Jerry Garcia on board. Reminds me of “Cats Under the Stars.”

  19. A complete Pablo Recordings of Zoot Sims on Mosaic would be great. (But will very likely never happen.)
  20. 1936-1941 Decca sides. An essential compilation, I'd say.
