  3. I have this Roost 2220, excellent sate. Would like to get a nice copy of the preceding volume as well; it seems a bit harder to find on LP.
  4. Evensmo, in his solography, mentions this session: SELDON POWELL QUINTET NYC. July 7, 1956 Seldon Powell (ts), Hank Jones (p), Barry Galbraith (g), Milt Hinton (b), Osie Johnson (dm). Three titles were recorded for Epic: Stoozie C. J.’s Brother Serenade In Blue His comments on the session: Pleasant, nice session with SP at his very best. Two fine medium swingers are most notable, but the beautiful and lighttoned version of ”Serenade …” will be your lasting memory! I could not find any record containing "Serenade in Blue" on Discogs, or on streaming services. Does anyone know if it has ever been released (and even better, if you have a copy of the recording, please let me know...). EDIT: I found it! https://www.discogs.com/master/1022100-The-Rhythm-Section-Rhythm-1
  5. Preference is not a consideration. Interest is, and it's total.
  6. From https://www.everythingjazz.com/story/the-tiberi-tapes-a-new-addition-to-john-coltranes-discography-for-2026/ The slow speed kind of explains the pitchy quality of the recordings. It often sounds to me like the speed is off and the pitch not standard. https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images1/1/1225/17/vintage-magnavox-tr-100tape-recorder_1_d250f172475f7aa8e879a1a41bdb861b.jpg
  7. The Paris 68 is terrific, but there's a theme from this video that's missing. With that extra track, the Paris session could be an LP. Marion Brown Paris 68
  8. And?? Are you saying you prefer the beginning of the Elvin/McCoy quartet or the later stuff?

Someone just shared some ‘70’s footage by Mal on YT with Oliver Johnson and Gus Nemeth. I also never saw this before:
  10. I have and very much enjoy the Away LPs. Prime stuff!
  11. Enoch Light And The Light Brigade – Pertinent Percussion Cha Cha's
  12. I am returning to some of the early Jazz messengers recordings with Jackie McLean and Bill Hardman, and some with Johnny Griffin. They have a rawness and excitement that I am finding very appealing.
  13. It’s great, it’s up on their bandcamp https://nobusinessrecords.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-europe-1968-1972
  14. Kelly Willis - tomorrow night.
  15. I remember when Clark Terry played at IAJE and visibly struggled to move from his wheelchair to his chair, then announced to the audience, "The golden years suck" to the audience. I'm sure it was a part of his routine at that point in his career. Sadly, what may have been Clark Terry's final public performance was with the Statesmen of Jazz in Chattanooga on March 30, 2008. He just had gotten over a bout with pneumonia and he stuck to playing flugelhorn for the entire show, with Red Holloway pretty much taking over the ensemble. A recording exists, but his volume is a shadow of what one would expect. Afterward, I remember him sitting alone in the lobby in his wheelchair and I walked up to him to thank him for his many recordings. I didn't see anyone else approach him after that, he probably wanted to get back to the hotel to get some rest. Here is the set list: Blues Walk Moten Swing Stardust That Old Feeling Perdido Nuages St. Thomas Willow Weep For Me Locksmith Blues Ow Robbins' Nest Mumbles Just Squeeze Me Don't Blame Me Stars Fell On Alabama Strike Up The Band The band: Clark Terry - Flugelhorn, Vocals Red Holloway - Alto And Tenor Saxophone, Vocals Harry Allen - Tenor Saxophone Wycliffe Gordon - Trombone, Vocals Norman Simmons - Grand Piano Bucky Pizzarelli - Electric Guitar Bob Cranshaw - Double Bass Mickey Roker - Drums
  16. Very sad news. RIP
  17. R.I.P. Paul.
  18. If the sound is good, I’m in! This was a great period for Brown
  19. Boy it’s no fun walking the dog in rain when it’s 45! A short one by mutual agreement. I’m playing some of my very favorite Dexter Gordon. I’ve bought this music on LP and cd before and this is the best mastering I’ve heard, these Muzak Records reissues from Japan sound fantastic. Dexter Gordon “The Montmartre Collection” Black Lion/Muzak Japan 2 cd set, disc 1 (Not an exact image, couldn’t find one for the Muzak 2 cd collection).
