  1. I hear what you sayin' but I was there and dislike the "show biz gloss". FWIW, all the individual BN cds use Malcolm Addey remixes from 1994. McMaster made the cd masters from his work.
  2. Next time you are home with some free time, please burn a cdr of it - my copy has a large booger in the middle and won't play. Do not send a regular copy. Sorry, I thought this was a PM.
  3. Knowing Cecil a bit, I'd guess he was looking forward to KD's participation.

  5. Point taken, but I still don't want to buy the Mosaic just to find out the music doesn't really speak to me. I think even the recent 4 CD set might be too much. I am a bit more interested in the John Carter Select. I do have Castles of Ghana and a few others, but I still don't reach for them that often. I am trying to re-prioritize and maybe having hundreds of CDs on the shelves that I never listen to isn't the way I should play out the second half of my life. I have one bookcase of the most important CDs (maybe 300) and I could sell all the rest off and probably never notice the difference. I've been thinking about that a lot lately, especially as the second hand CD market looks set to collapse as well. Please try one of the Threadgills on About Time before you toss him in the dust bin.
  6. FWIW, the ultimate reason Alfred sold BN was a couple of heart attacks. Frank was a minor partner and Lion made sure Frank had a job for life with the new owner.
  7. Good for you. We all get another one, or not.
  8. Brecker? Was mentioned yesterday... I was referring to Randy Marsh. He and Eddie Marshall were both Bay Area drummers at one point.
  9. Wish I could be there. The Abrams/Bankhead/Brown trio sounds intriguing. The last few times I've heard Muhal he's been wonderful.
  10. U be alone on this one.
  11. unknown and unknown jr. this family is larger than you can imagine.
  12. If that... Now we are drifting into David Gates territory.
  13. And David Foster Wallace is......
  14. Be sure to ask what they will do with the collection.
  15. He was never sure where the music was going when he was making it. That was his magic.
  16. If you don't want to invest the time (tons of it) to sell it piece by piece, I would seek a reputable dealer to dispose of collection for a percentage. In any case you will need to make a list of the items. Most public libraries now offer lp donations in their "garage sales".

    Thanks Chas.
  18. All interesting stuff but want to disagree about the Chicago stuff. It wasn't really "swing-influenced revivalist". This music was documented in the early/mid '20s and was a white reaction/outgrowth to the music they heard. It was "new/derivative", not revivalist.
