  1. Damn! Wish we were with you. We are eating leftovers again tonight - for lunch we finished the fantastic sushi Mark and Melanie brought. For the record, and so couw can update his map.... We are in Beachwood Ohio. Having dinner here tonight. ←
  2. Chris, where are you now?
  3. Mark, me and Chris. Late in the evening, after much beer and food.
  4. This is one pic (taken this morning) giving a hint of our evening. Guests were Catesta, his friend Catrina, Uncle Skid, wife Melanie and Lazaro. Laz had to be on the air at 10 so he missed the beer and food. As you could guess, Catesta brought a fine array of roadkill for our grill.
  5. Strozier was not a member of the band at the time Abrams was in the band. The personel included Paul Serrano and Nicky Hill.
  6. Hope all goes smoothly.
  7. Uncle Skid and wife will be here too. Happy motoring.
  8. Can you imagine the cost of the inventory? Customers have to pay for this - it ain't free. OTOH, Dusty's inventory ain't as big as JRM's back room. I love DG, but they manage their inventory "with care".
  9. Happy Birthday you rhythmic one. Have a great time in Cadillac tonight!
  10. If that is really the case, I'd consider it - with the 90 day warning.
  11. It usually means it was a return (faulty machine) reconditioned by the manufacturer. Ya' takes your chances. How much were they asking vs. a new copy of the same model?
  12. I was speaking of Newman - he recorded the Gillespie material.
  13. His recordings of the Gillespie band at the Spotlite Club date from the summer of '46.
  14. As mentioned elsewhere, the K2 of Monk's Music is a huge improvement but you might want both editions since the K2 is from the mono masters and the OJC is (poor) stereo.
  15. Sorry you find so little pleasure.
  16. Just another AC, though there ain't too many left.
  17. Never met the dude but from what i know, he was an uninformed, opportunistic dude in a small position of power.
  18. I have read this thread from the start. I think there are legit complaints about the reps of the folks you mention and am willing to debate but think you are too "confrontational" to be a worthy adversary. I have insisted on including all of Sid's comment to show him for "what he is" and to give context to the era. Do you really want to edit history? You seem to be trying hard for some sort of "jerk" award.
  19. Compared to my tastes, you seem to be all over the place. No pattern beyond your "attack". FWIW, I don't think it is very well informed nomatter my agreements. It seems you are looking for a fight.
  20. When I was starting at Delmark AB was in the army. When he returned I included him on the first Muhal Richard Abrams date - I quit my job before the first session but set it up. Though Koester and I were "enemies" at the time of the session, Muhal insisted I be a "guest" in the studio for the date. Delmark then signed a contract with Braxton and he recorded for them 'til he left for France (and beyond, since he and Jarman sent back tapes for their duo date). Anthony did play on a couple of Roscoe's sessions for me but that's it so far. Last time I spoke to Anthony on the phone (while I was doing the For Alto reissue in 2000) he said "Hey, when am I going to get to do a Nessa?". I hope to have the opportunity.
  21. Gary Union and the Phukket Gap - thanks for the bad memory. Who needs acid flashbacks when you got friends like Joe G.
  22. I first encountered him in the late '60s, Chicago, AACM atmosphere. He was a big man with a good sound, solid conception and a big heart. He spent the next 30+ years demonstrating these qualities to the world. We are thankful.
  23. I'm not so sure. I've almost left because of SM.
