  1. Mostly white guys in this thread. Does this mean anything or not? Is this the best they can do with their degrees from school?

    Bill Hardman

No memory of the Savoy date (I'm an old guy, ok). One time I met Bill, Junior Cook and Lou Donaldson at the airport - didn't have a ruler but they were all shorter than I was at the time. B-) I've always been bummed the Hardman/Muse sessions didn't make it to cd. Home is a favorite and I kept a pressing.
  3. Draper Waldron AT Jm Hardman Doug is in the bathroom. B-)
  4. Had to throw something like 2 feet from our sidewalk this morning. A great neighbor with a blower did most of the drive (25 x 50). Thanks Jack. I love having 4 seasons and if I die pushing snow, so be it.
  5. Subdivision of music is always welcome. I usually respond to parentheses inside of parentheses. I'm deeply attracted to the guys about three tiers down from the real guys. I am willing to be challenged "to a point reached about 40 years ago". After that, feel free. OTOH, there is a ton of stuff (never mind the stylistic subdivision) curently available from Fantasy. Have a great time, don't worry about eras.
  6. That's the first session after Alfred "retired". I'm pretty sure this is explained in the book.
  7. 'cept, Art and Laurie "worked" this to the end of his life. "fundamental fraudulence" was their way of life. I say this as a fan, late friend and associate.
  8. I forgot to mention I missed the announcement of the dickhead festival. Welcome y'all.
  9. When did Maxell and others stop producing 2 inch tape?
  10. Don't ask how I know, but the BN/Liberty sale papers were signed on May 19, 1966 - hours after Alfred recorded Unit Structures. When it was released it had a Liberty cover with no mention on the heavy Plastilyte (old pressing plant) pressing. This stuff makes me dizzy, but I was a retail buyer in Chicago at the time, a BN fan and got most of them as they were released.
  11. The records were NOT issued or pressed in strict numerical order. The Liberty imprinted covers appeared before the change of pressing plants. For about a year there were lots of deviations. I have a first pressing promo of Jody Grind and the label says "a division of Liberty Records, Inc" but it is a heavy Plastilyte (sp?) pressing. This is the only one like it I have seen.
  12. 2 alternates: Straighten Up and Fly Right 5:15 Just Jazz 5:14
  13. Looks like you already had "your" answers and don't need the rest of us.
  14. The New Tristano.
  15. Quintessential Recording Session.
  16. Classic Early Solos (1934-37).
  17. Indent.
  18. Not a "highjacking" but I wonder if more poets lurk here. We have Late, David Gitin and my friends Art Lange and the departed JB Figi are/were poets/jazz fiends as well. Any lurkers?
  19. Fantastic. Thanks for the alert.
  20. Konitz' Spirits was recorded in 1971 and issued in 1972. Senior moment?
  21. Where's that buzz coming from? What's that crackle? Never mind boys, keep playing. I'll find it.
  22. Commodore, box 1, disc 2, Kansas City Five.
  23. Missed it.
