  1. I had the pleasure of seeing perform live Elvin 4 or 5 times... A gentleman who always had a great band! He is sorely missed.
  2. Congratulations Man... Must have been a great day!
  3. I completely concur.. One of my top 3 or 5....
  4. The thing I like about these Storyville sets is like the Tatum,Duke and Webster boxes... A) they are relatively inexpensive (circa 60-80$ or so). B) they tend to have a lot of live dates C) a lot of the material is European dates which often only show up here (US) as expensive imports. I don't like the packaging... but it's often a lot of good, OOP music that's hard to get for a great price...Given the lack of specifics on the Wilson I don't know how much of this will apply...
  5. Just up! http://www.storyvillerecords.com/Default.aspx I've got no Wilson... What say you vets???? Is this likely to be a good one?????
  6. One of the things I find so obnoxious about discussions about Wynton is that there's WAY too many dismissive opinions... It's just not worth trying to have a rational conversation.
  7. I'm not sure I agree with Phil Woods.... and obviously I could live without the shots @ the Marsalises' Let me ask a simple question... If they had named the Jones' family (e.g., Elvin, Thad and Hank) posthumously would those of you who are against be as upset????? <_< I don't think a "bad precedent" has been set... There have numerous great jazz families....
  8. That's right.. thanks I forgot... It is frustrating though that there's no KIND of friggin' communication that these things are coming out on mp3.. You would think (given how much they all want our $$$) that there would be somebody who'd ask (pay) Mosaic for a list of their customers so they could send us some promotional emails or something.... (Not that I want more email...  ) My basic point is that there is CLEARLY a market (namely us) for this stuff... Seems like a half-assed effort to just throw them out there an have us go find them... What am I?? A dog after a bone???? :beee:
  9. This is very odd... but the album info makes NO reference to Mosaic
  10. I had a few individual discs and realized quickly that all the CDs are quickly becoming OOP... So I caved and bought the set... EXCELLENT!!! Worked for me... :blush2: :blush2:
  11. I ordered this a LONG time ago since I only had the original release (no alternates or bonus cuts). They did this kind of packaging with Brubeck's Time Out. I liked this new one.. I think it was down to $19.99 at amazon a few days ago...
  12. I have (although it's been a few years..). I like his music a lot and his live performances do have a hip trane like aspect to it... Although I would definitely NOT put it in the muzak category.... He's headed back over here in late January and I'll be going... IMHO there's a serenity in his playing (live and on record)... that I don't find in most performers....
  13. i haven't looked at Safari but I tried Opera, Google Chrome and a few other browsers.. and I keep coming back to Firefox....
  14. Nice!!  Thank you so much..I've still got my order on amazon... It's a little bit cheaper but they made me wait until late Sept./early Oct...
  15. You might want to take a look over here..... http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/mahavishnu-orchestra/ and welcome!
  16. I came across this on jazzloft's site... https://www.jazzloft.com/p-52626-trio-x-live-on-tour-2008-ltd-edition-box.aspx I wasn't that familiar with him an did some snooping around... I found Trio X's website which had some download-able mp3s... I liked it... :w I'm thinking about getting the boxed set (since it's at a good price..) Would this be a good introduction??? Might be a poor analogy but he kinda reminds me a little of a stripped down David Murray....
  17. More clips can be found here.... http://beta.wnyc.org/shows/lopate/2010/aug/24/savory-recordings/
  18. Just click on my link...
  19. I liked the group better when it had Josh Redman, Bobby Hutcherson and Renee Rosnes... :excl: BUT it's still a good group... and who else releases a 3CD set of new live music???? I preordered... (as usual)  http://www.sfjazz.org/shop/music/collective/cd_2010.php
  20. Not too happy with Stan Kenton Capitol Sessions (Disc 6) <_< After reading Straight Life I was intrigued by Art Pepper's days with Kenton... then... I found an opened copy of this OOP on amazon for a decent price... Liked the Anita and Christy stuff early in the set (Discs 1 - 3 or so)... but by Disc 5.... :(
  21. Jamal Disc 7.... Damn tootin'! I've blown through the 9-CD set nearly twice and it's still not getting old. This is a keeper for sure! I'm embarrassed to say, I never expected it to be this good! :blush2:
  22. Jamal Disc 1.... All I can say is Wow...!
  23. Happy Birthday Laurie... Finished reading Straight Life a few weeks ago... You are and were an amazing person in Art's life (and thereafter)... :excl: Thank you for everything you're doing....
  24. Oh come on Chuck.. We're like kids on Christmas Eve with a thousand wrapped boxes.. .you can't expect us to be LOGICAL at this time can you????? <_<
