  1. Wow!! never knew that - always had a soft spot for The Left Banke - liked their "baroque" rock sound - "Walk Away Rene" one of my favourite tracks from the 60's Why the difference in surnames?

    Anthony Braxton

Ah - missed that piece of info
  3. romualdo

    Evan Parker

That's interesting - Martin told me last year that Evan was winding up his psi venture This will probably be a copy of the Chronoscope CD or has it been remastered? I've got both Chronoscope CDs & am happy with them - regret not getting SME's Karyobin at the time (this was also on Chronoscope) - this definitely needs reisseuing

    Anthony Braxton

still only 19.99 with 13hrs to go!! someone's going to get a bargain or will it skyrocket in the last few seconds
  5. When this topic came up i immediately thought of Ornette Coleman & particularly the track "Ramblin" Maybe we could squeeze Horace Tapscott in here also Arcana - Derek Bailey/Tony Williams/Bill Laswell !!!
  6. My "Folk Baroque" supremo triad of Davy Graham, Bert Jansch & John Renbourn have all now passed (prematurely) - never did get to see Davy or John but was lucky enough to catch Bert a couple of times here in Australia RIP John
  7. get em all!! - great music
  8. The New Zealand "Sarang Bang" label has recently released (late last year) an LP titled "1966" http://www.sarangbang.co.nz/records/artists/bernie-mcgann.html It's two live sessions from 1966 (both recorded in Sydney, one in King's Cross) Quintet & Quartet lineups, extensive liner notes on the LP cover (500 pressed), sound quality is remarkably good Sounds very Colemanish - they even do a version of "When will the Blues Leave" The music (just under 50mins) is also available as a download from Bandcamp
  9. and it sounds so much better than the Collectables version!!
  10. managed to get a copy of this & I was bowled over to see the alternates from the Contemporary sessions - I thought they would have been in the possession of Contemporary
  11. bizarre - wonder why they didn't release it as a double set like it was in its original Hat Art (1997) incarnation? I think this was the first Hat Art 24bit release
  12. Finally!! - I've had Garden II since the 90's but never managed get its matching set
  13. just got the Mosaic email advertising this upcoming set - nice!! Commodore & more
  14. Flurin This is a fantastic set - highly recommended Don't hold on for too long - it's a limited edition set (3000 copies) - I'm surprised it hasn't sold out yet Import CD's currently have this for $24.95 - great price
  15. Looks like Shorter's Odyssey of Iska has sold out on the HMV Japan site but is still available through CD Japan http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/artist_Wayne-Shorter_000000000011634/item_Odyssey-Of-Iska_5596332 Haven't done a more thorough search to see what else may be OOP
  16. I'm onto this one - big LT fan here
  17. Yes, they sound stellar. Much improved. from post #34 and many thanks
  18. Has anyone done a comparison of the two SHM Joe Henderson "State Of The Tenor 1 & 2" to older releases I know these are not part of the "Classic Blue Notes" series but I think this reissue has been mentioned here considering upgrading my mid 90's doubletime release - this sounded quite good IMHO (for the time) but are the SHM's that much better? - It's a pity they didn't add more unreleased titles from these live sessions (there are plenty) BTW I've been buying the earlier Classic SHM BN's from HMV Japan - they have them at a reduced prices, as low as 1200 yen at times (with their frequent special offers) AFAIK all of the titles since the first series are still available at HMV Japan
  19. bumped wow, it's 4 years since I originally posted this Still looking for the first 2 Giuffre discs (I have CDr's but would like the original discs) This box doesn't turn up much, let alone individual discs (not like the 12CD Classic Capitol sessions - lots of split sets on the market) Thanks
  20. thanks James have bookmarked the CD - any unreleased/rereleased Wardell is eagerly anticipated, especially a 64 bar solo
  21. He plays piano (no organ at all) on Nathan Davis' "Happy Girl" (SABA/MPS) - recorded in Germany Jan 65 Woody Shaw plays on two titles (quintet), the remainder are quartet with LY on piano - I suspect this will be the lineup for the Nathan Davis Quartet material referred to He also plays piano on two early Woody Shaw Muse titles (Dec 65) "Cassandrite" & "Obsequious" - these were originally recorded for Blue Note but not released by the label
  22. I wonder if that was a direct quote from Zieff as it's italicised (was it misheard or did Zieff actually say that) - reading further down (4 lines to be exact) Chambers repeats the description, this time spelt correctly (bona-fide bopsters) Maybe it's not a typo?
  23. I'd have to agree with the Harriott - have read it twice (1st & revised second editions) Also dug the recent Twardzik (Bouncin' With Bartok) & Nichols (A Jazzist's Life) tomes Currently reading Marcus Cornelius' Warne Marsh novel (Out Of Nowhere)
  24. Tegu jis ilsisi ramybeje Clark, your music will live on
  25. Wow!! - includes Woody Shaw & Nathan Davis (plus some ND Quartet material) looks like this is going to be one of my releases of the year will definitely wait for the CD release
