Death of the iPod (Everyone's buying vinyl)
romualdo replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Audio Talk
Wow! the X3 & X5 look impressive - It appears you can directly connect the larger headphones to these without a preamp (X3 & X5 or just X5) - I have Grados (SR 325) -> will they work? Something I can't do with an iPod - I have a 10yo 4th gen iPod (40gb) - were they called classics then? - still running fine but maybe an upgrade to Fiio is on the cards I presume they don't sync with iTunes? What computer interface is used & are they Mac friendly? -
not sure if this has already been mentioned but I just found a download (from Laurie Pepper's AP/Widow's Taste site) of Art Pepper & Warne Marsh (sextet) Was browsing through the news section of the Warne Marsh Site http://www.warnemarsh.info/news.htm It's over two & a quarter hours of music from a live afternoon date at "The Foxy Lady" in LA (April 75) - 8 long titles where everyone gets the chance to stretch out Half of the tracks also include Buddy Collette on clarinet & flute It was put up in mid 2013 as download only (FLAC, MP3) http://artpepper.bandcamp.com/album/art-n-warne ($7 via Bandcamp) A must for all Warne fans!!

You want to read about Australian History (post European colonisation)!! -
erwbol, thanks for the recommendation - wasn't even aware of these recordings just ordered the 2 CIMP's from Cadence (Klompfoot)

I have a corrected version which runs @ 7:50 - the faulty/slower version is 38 secs longer

Really digging the three 2003 Braxton Standards sets (12 discs in all & over 14 hours of music) Kevin O'Neil -> wow!! what guitar work The Kandinsky cover art (all 3 sets) is the icing on the cake for me.

RIP Joe I always remember the hoo ha surrounding his bust in Adelaide & "brawl" the next day in Melbourne & being thrown out of the country during his Australian tour (October 72) if this had happened less than two months later (Gough Whitlam's Labor party came to power) I doubt the deportation would have occurred

How do the Spotlite CD's compare to the box set? - I've had those since the 90's but maybe upgrading soon - I think I'll be getting the Dial box for Christmas

I've owned the Warne Marsh Nessa CD "All Music" since 2004 - i'm sure It was OK when I first played it & on subsequent listenings My external hard drive recently crashed (lost a terrabyte of MP3 files - luckily I have 95% of the music as hard copy) so I'm slowly reloading my CDs back onto the computer Today I tried loading "All Music" but the last track wouldn't accommodate (tried different CD burners without avail) - I also listened to the disc on my Pioneer CD player & the track kept skipping & sticking (similarly on my computer) The CD itself appears fine - no marks, stains etc Could this be an age related anomaly Anybody else have issues with the last (14th) title on this CD?

Import Cds - the online retailer - what do you guys think of them?
romualdo replied to skeith's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I placed an order last night (11pm Brisbane time, Dec 8) & there were no problems with the coupon - Admittedly there is time difference (i'm approx 10hrs ahead) -
Another question for you Chuck Leo Smith's "Spirit Catcher" was recorded by RVG (listed on the CD liner notes) - was this at his Englewood Cliffs studio or was he visiting Chicago at the time?
-
Thanks Chuck , much appreciated

The early Stan Tracey's?... there's plenty of them that have never seen the light of day on CD. I'd like to see the Tracy Ellington Big Band tribute "We Love You Madly" - upgrade my Australian Columbia LP copy Has Joe Harriott in the band
-
suppose this will be for Chuck What was the last Nessa LP release? - I'm thinking n24, Hal Russell's Eftsoons Did n25 (NRG Ensemble with Charles Tyler) & n26 (Leo Smith - Procession…) get a vinyl issue by Chief or was their first release only a CD affair by this UK label? Both of these sessions were recorded in the early 80's but not released till the end of the decade (89)

John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman cd without coltrane's overdubs
romualdo replied to l p's topic in Discography
Cuscuna discusses this in the liner notes to the 1995 Impulse Digipak release (GRD 157) - this contains the 3 later release overdubbed versions -
This is exciting - I have no Beehive material & looks like most of the material is quality - looking forward to this one

The earlier copies of the 50th anniversary disc released in June had the bonus track at the wrong speed - It was repressed in September with the 5th track at correct speed So, there are going to be a few dud CDs circulating. Martin carries the corrected version http://www.emanemdisc.com/other.html

What a read - funny & disturbing - we even have/had Radio Shack stores here in Australia love the Bill Gates Spider joke at the end
-
There are MANY photographs in circulation that make you think so. OTOH, if a young Earle Warren and, above all, Lena Horne, are found to be African American when looking at their pictures, then there is no reason why Jackie McLean isn't. Wow! - I never realised that Earle was African American

A complete "Four Days In December" would make a great box set (Mosaic?) - probably too difficult to get all of the material together - wonder how much of it was recorded - I think Jerry Newman did some of the concerts Sun Ra, Paul Bley, Cecil Taylor, Bill Dixon, Jazz Composers Guild Orchestra, Archie Shepp Quartet with Charles Tolliver & Marion Brown, Free Form Improvisation Ensemble (Alan Silva, Burton Greene), New York Art Quartet Four NYA4 tracks were recently released on the Triple Point 5LP set plus other material has been released on the Fontana LPs (JCO) ps: found some more info in Campbell's "Earthly Recordings Of Sun Ra" - The complete series of concerts was recorded by The Jazz Composer's Guild who were planning to release a sampler on their own label & possibly all of the material but the Guild broke up & the releases never came to fruition but there were plans to release material on the Fontana Series. The Sun Ra material (in part) from Dec 31 was released on Saturn 165 with 5 extra titles added to the 2009 ESP CD "Sun Ra Featuring Pharaoh Sanders & Black Harold"
