  1. yes, i pulled out my 88 berlin box & gave the CT/DB disc a spin yesterday
  2. same here - the Bechet is the one I would go for - have most of the other material
  3. Many thanks - have just watched half of it; very insightful Didn't realise he was such an admirer of Derek Bailey
  4. I've also ordered the Braxton Yoshi 4 double sets, Vysniauskas & Evan Parker, Sun Ra & Cecil Taylor "stragglers" - ones I've passed over in the past I would highly recommend the 4CD GYONJ sets, especially Vol. 4 (if you are a Ganelin Trio fan) - contains a wide variety of their projects, released & unreleased Any advice on other Braxton's on the list - will probably go for Comp #96 (169) & Comps #175/126 (453/454)
  5. makes sense as the Erroll Garner release "Cocktail Time" (50216) is a Dial 10" (205) although the DG 10" (204) is just called Dexter Gordon & "The Chase" was not included on the original LP!! "The Chase" was actually included on a Various Artists 10" (211) called Mr Saxophone
  6. I believe that all TOCJ's are EMI owned recordings. None of the ones you mention qualify. Unless they struck a licensing deal with Spotlite (UK), the label that owns Dial. this is odd as the only Gordon material qualifying as an EMI/TOCJ release would be his Blue Note material & possibly the Bethlehem session (Daddy Plays The Horn - has been released as a TOCJ CD)
  7. TOCJ 50217 Gordon,Dexter(ts)/The Chase 999 wondering if this is going to be the Decca Gordon/Gray - Chase/Steeplechase or a Dial compilation? Hoping it's the former - have been waiting for this one for a while (big Wardell fan) - the last Japanese pressing of this was out of my price range
  8. Just placed an order Leo Feigin replied (all CD's available) within a few minutes - that's service!!
  9. Lots of Atavistic releases - Pity they didn't have the George Gruntz "Mental Cruelty" CD there or is it OOP?
  10. Thanks for the link Still waiting for my copy (its on the way) - actually I've never heard the LP so all of this publicity (on the board) & other reviews are giving me great expectations Can't wait to hear it!
  11. here's the link Colin - sorry about the delay (have been offline for a few hours) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Live-Recordings-1948-1957-13CD-box/dp/B005HPQ7KK/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1320389198&sr=1-1
  12. Amazon UK have just dropped the price for the 13CD Davis set down to 26.46 pounds Couldn't resist - after removal of VAT the box costs 22.05 pounds (35 Aussie $'s) & free shipping to Australia That's just under $2.70 a disc - can't go wrong here Can now offload all those Spanish boots - already had 60% of the material but it's nice to have it all in one set
  13. Yes, I think I already have a large chunk of this - have all of the above (including Capitol sessions) plus the Mosaic (contains "The Greatest Trumpet of Them All - DG Orch but technically an octet - this may be in the set) Material missing (1954) Norgran 1023/1090/Verve 8178 - Diz Big Band+ Johnny Richards Orch (part of this was to be released on the now cancelled Lucky Thompson Mosaic Select) no CD release (maybe Japan?) (1955) Norgran 1083/Verve 8173/Verve 2317080 - Big Band Sound of DG -> partly released on CD (1960) Verve 8386 - DG & His Orch - A Portrait Of Duke Ellington -> CD release (1960) Verve 8394 - DG & His Orch - Gillespiana -> partly released on CD epj - many thanks for the info - with my Lord Discography & your listing I could piece together this set
  14. The 13 CD Davis box looks very tempting - have found date/location details from pics on amazon but no track details I'm trying to compare numbers of titles associated with each session & cross referencing it with the Miled Ahead discography site Jazzbo, how comprehensive is this box? - does it exclude some titles from each session (where MD may not be present or not soloing) any chance of a track listing or is that too mammoth a task to ask?
  15. very interesting - don't know much about this label - how legit are they (anything like Membran?) probably will have a lot of this material already. Can't seem to find track listings for the set. Feed back on this label & its other releases would be greatly appreciated Amazon UK have this for 21 pounds -> probably a better deal for me as shipping is free & VAT will also be removed
  16. nice one - thanks for the discography
  17. have been keeping my fingers crossed for a few years now - I remember Mosaic mentioning a possible Konitz Verve set This is high on my Mosaic wants list
  18. The Golden Years of the Soviet New Jazz series is highly recommended, especially Vols I & IV (IMHO) Leo Feigin has only pressed 750 copies of each set If you're a Ganelin trio fan then Vol. IV is essential - contains a large swathe of their solo, duo & trio projects, Chekasin quartets/quintets etc (originally released as Leo LPs plus unreleased material) Vol. 1 contains material by Sergey Kuryokhin, Valentina Ponomareva, Anatoly Vapirov & Volkov Guyvoronsky
  19. pm sent on Archie Shepp/Lars Gullin Quintet - The House I Live In (Steeplechase) w/T.Montoliu, NHOP, A.Riel $6 Golden Years of the Soviet New Jazz, volume II (Leo) 4 discs $17 Golden Years of the Soviet New Jazz, volume III (Leo) 4 discs $17
  20. pm sent on Al Cohn/Zoot Sims/Tony Scott - East Coast Sounds (OJC) $6 Bobby Jaspar & his Modern Jazz (Vogue digipak, 23 tracks) $10 Les Jazz Modes - Mood in Scarlet (Dawn/Blue Moon) $8 Randy Weston - Carnival (freedom/Black Lion) $12 Abdullah Ibrahim - Blues for a Hip King (Camden) $8 Randy Weston - Saga (Gitanes) $6 Randy Weston - Volcano Blues (Gitanes) $8 Randy Weston - Earth Blues (Gitanes)
  21. No problems to Australia - usually takes 5-10 days from europe/UK
  22. pm sent on Furt - Plus Equals - (Psi) 4 Evan Parker/Barry Guy/Paul Lytton + Peter Evans - Scenes in the House of Music - (Clean Feed) 7
