  1. I plan to buy the BN DVD when it come out... However, is there any way to find the four VHS tapes without spending a fortune? I know there are thousands of Woody Shaw videos out there, but I wouldn't mind having this one as well. Bertrand.
  2. One of my favorite organ records. This one just rocks from start to finish. What is incredible is that all this noise is produced by three people (four if you count the conga). Grant and John are of one mind throughout the whole thing, and there are some passages where they are in total unison. It hasn't been specifically alluded to yet, but I love the arrangement of Duke Pearson's 'Amanda' with which they close. I had the chance to hear Patton play this piece the one time I saw him (8/11/01), just a few months before he died. John really gets to the heart of this beautiful melody. I LOVE this record. Bertrand. P.S.: Does Richard Landrum play on all tracks? I don't always hear it, even though the BN disco says he does.
  3. He should pay people $50 to take Blood On The Fields off his hands! Bertrand.
  4. Stefan and I are going. Anyone else? Bertrand.
  5. CDuniverse list this as being on sin-drome records. What's up with that, before I order the thing? Bertrand.
  6. On the topic of Caramba... Is it just me, or is there audible surface noise on the bonus track, 'A Baby's Smile'? You would think this was the one tune that *had* to come from the Master Tape. Bertrand.
  7. Up... Before I pre-order these, do we know if they will be copy-protected in the U.S.? Bertrand.
  8. Dan, The soundtrack is obviously not on Blue Note - that's clear to me. The fact that Hank bothered to bring it up in the interview indicates that the session must have taken place. What did he have to gain by making it up? Perhaps Ian McDonald or Sam Miller can shed some light... Bertrand.
  9. There's still the soundtrack to the movie about the Franco-Algerian war, as mentioned in the Litweiler interview posted elsewhere... Bertrand.
  10. What are the differences (if any) between the Monk composition 'Hackensack' and the tune labelled 'Lady Be Good' that appears on Kenny Burrell On View At The Five Spot? How does either tune relate to Gershwin's 'Lady Be Good'? Thanks in advance, Bertrand.
  11. Grachan Moncur's 2 BYG dates could fit nicely on one CD... Bertrand.
  12. If you look real carefully at this picture, you can see Lee Morgan faintly in the background, and I believe...YES! HE'S WEARING A SURGICAL BANDAGE AROUND HIS HEAD!!! Bertrand.
  13. Will the U.S. CDs be copy-protected? Bertrand.
  14. None of the Lee biographers I have spoken to have determined the fate of Helen More. The unverified story that is circulating is that she served a very short prison term (six months). She is said to have died within the last decade - she was 14 years older than Lee. Fortunately, the rights to his music reverted to his wife Kiko Yamamoto (they were never divorced). Helen More could not have been his common law wife as is often stated, since he still had a wife at the time of his death. Bertrand.
  15. Daniel, That would make sense. The whole thing is a kind of weird-angle shot of a church organ. This is a Larry Young record, after all! Bertrand.
  16. Someone on the old board had claimed this was a picture of the Twin Towers of the WTC. Now that I finally see a large picture, I'm sure it is NOT. There's at most one building in the picture (is that a building?) and it could be any building. Bertrand.
  17. There are two other color pictures of Larry in the softcover book of Frank Wolff photos. Jim, I have never seen the cover of Heaven On Earth - please hip us to it. Bertrand.
  18. I didn't know it had posted at all! I was getting an error message to the effect that my e-mail failed. Let's see how this message works... Bertrand.
  19. According to the ad in Downbeat, and the Hyena site, the first Monk CD from Hyena records will include a free DVD of Monk In Oslo. Very cool idea, which suits me well since I just got a DVD player! Anyone know the set list, dates, and personnel? Thanks, Bertrand.
  20. I'm too fucking lazy to look. If I order three of the Connoisseurs for $12.59 from CDUniverse, what's my shipping charge? Thanks, Bertrand.
  21. Congratulations!!! Bertrand.
