  1. What seems to be the problem here? Dave is a new member who has contributed to several discussions over the past few months. He's also a musician who has provided links to free classes he's offered, and now a link to a performance featuring another musician he thinks highly of. If you believe his post is inappropriate say so and/or report it. Otherwise, it might be better to keep your snide comments to yourself. I've been guilty of this kind of behavior in the past, and I've found it doesn't contribute positively to our community.
  2. I only recently became aware of McGann, and I like what I've heard. So far, I've got McGann and Playground, and I'll likely download more of the ten titles offered by Rufus Records on Bandcamp.
  3. I can confirm that there are only 10 tracks on this recording.
  4. Bob's show has been the only jazz program during the week on Boston's public radio stations for a few years now. I should have listened to him more often than I did. His absence will be deeply felt by jazz fans across the country. RIP Bob.
  5. Happy Pi Day! It is a big deal. It's irrational, it's transcendental (like the number itself). It's an opportunity for kids to have fun with math. The fact that this particular Pi Day only comes once a century is particularly noteworthy. Of course, if you really want to celebrate it right, you can do something today at 26 minutes and 53 seconds after 9 o'clock (3.141592653...). Now that's a lotta pi! It's also Einstein's birthday. Of course, my favorite way of celebrating Pi Day is .... well, Al has the right idea.
  6. There may be a problem with Audacity if you are using it for mp3 files. If you open an mp3 file and re-save it as an mp3 file, I am almost positive that it will compress an already-compressed file. The only way I've gotten good results using Audacity is to rip to .wav files, open & edit in Audacity and then "Export" to VBR Q1 mp3. Correct, as usual. You need mp3 audio editing software like mp3DirectCut. It features basic editing functions, including a tag editor, but it doesn't re-encode the mp3 file.
  7. If I understand it correctly, you're not actually making a phone call on your iPad, but through your iPad. You still need an iPhone, and both your iPhone and iPad have to be connected to the same wireless network. And yes, I believe these are FaceTime calls. The same process also works with the latest generation iPod Touch and iMac running Yosemite.
  8. Nothing wrong that I can see.
  9. Would it have killed them to at least put the BN logo on it? Hell, I have pint glasses that feature the BN logo. Now they are cool.
  10. Another big fan of Michel Pilz! Listen to clips from these two recordings: Michel Pilz/Bob Degen: Tilly's Eyes Peter A.Schmid-Michel Pilz Quartet: Sschmilz
  11. Not a problem: Samsung Electronics Ultra-Thin Optical Drives
  12. "When TV didn't think of being politically correct" More to the point: "When our society believed it was acceptable to be openly demeaning to women."
  13. So much music, played with wit, humor and honesty. Rest peacefully. I don't think he rambled, but he sure did mumble!
  14. Has anyone listened to the free download of "Diane"? The first several seconds are marred by "warble" in the piano introduction, something that is not apparent on the OJC reissue. Don't know if the other tracks contain additional irregularities.
  15. It would appear so. Before falling prey to "the dark satanic lesbian vampires who had sucked the life out of him" (too wordy, just say "Kardasians"), Jenner won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 summer Olympics. This was back when Olympic athletes were strictly amateurs and the Soviets dominated the field and track events. Jenner became a national hero, and his image was featured on the Wheaties cereal box (back when that used to mean something). He was awarded the AP's Male Athlete Of The Year (along with several other titles) and was later inducted into the Olympics Hall Of Fame. He made numerous TV and film appearances in the late 70s-80s and even had some success in auto racing. Now you know.
  16. To the OP, it's not okay to copy an article word-for-word and post it here on the board. Forum rules instruct members to "post a small snippet, then include a hyperlink to the full article."
  17. That's an improvement, but it's not nearly as good as it might be if you had the proper position/angle when taking the picture. Why not put a little effort in this area (like the inexpensive tripod I suggested earlier), then use the software to correct whatever minor distortions remain?
  18. Quite understandable that you wouldn't have time to listen to that many discs within the return period. I wonder if it might be worthwhile in these situations to run each disc through a free ripper/converter application (I use X Lossless Decoder for Mac). It will give you a report that identifies any errors in a matter of minutes.
  19. You fail to mention the fact she was found unresponsive in a bathtub, just like her mother, a few weeks shy of the anniversary of her mother's death, and not longer after the Lifetime biopic "Whitney" began airing. In our modern 24-hour news cycle, this certainly rates as "newsworthy", albeit very sad news.
  20. I also enjoy the sound of this particular kind of trio, especially BassDrumBone. Here are some other suggestions. Hal Crook has recorded a few albums with bass and drums, as well as some with guitar and drums. I also like Nil's Wogram's Nostalgia Trio, a bone-organ-drums outfit.
  21. It's not an album cover, but it is the work of famous photographer, Julio Mitchel.
