I agree. Not essential, but quite enjoyable.

Don't you live in or near Manhattan? There are no audio stores there? What about the Stereo Exchange, Park Avenue Audio, B&H, Adorama, In Living Stereo, the Harman Store, Lyric Hi-Fi, not to mention several Best Buy locations? I agree there are fewer choices these days, but it would appear that people like you and I still have some places to go when we're in the market for stereo/av equipment.

Greetings all! Has the LP pictured below has ever been reissued on CD or available as a digital download? This version of Ntu Troop includes Woody Shaw, Albert Dailey, Rashied Ali & Bob Cunningham. The album was recorded in Baltimore at a Left Bank Jazz Society concert in 1969 and released on Milestone MSP 9027. In case you haven't heard it, I've included one of the tracks, Rise, below. Thanks in advance for any information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb7ocL3DxuE

I think you're misreading this promo. Their "goal" is to make every title available. That includes titles that will be available for streaming on iTunes Radio, as well as titles that can be purchased for download. The "100" refers to the BN titles that supposedly are being remastered exclusively for the iTunes store (a dubious distinction that doesn't exactly promise the best sound).

First off, there is no "Roku HD" model. There's the Roku streaming stick, Roku 1, Roku 2, and Roku 3. All models have built-in wireless, but you have to have a wireless network to connect it to. The "virtually any TV" label refers to TV compatibility. The stick and Roku 3 only work with HDTVs, while Roku 2 & 3 are compatible with "virtually any TV". i.e., non-HDTVs.

I first heard Jesse in 1982, and although his was not the kind of music I generally listened to back then, his words and his voice often touched me deep inside. Rest now, Jesse, with your feet in Dixie and your soul where it always belonged.

Rather annoying new feature at Dusty Groove

I don't understand your comment, and I find it extremely hard to believe that this is part of DG's "system" regarding international orders. I assume this actually happened to you. If so, surely it was a mistake due to an error in the mailing address. -

Dolphy: Freedom of Sound celebration/fundraiser—Pls. help!

I'm confused. Is the 2-day concert going to be held even if the Indiegogo campaign doesn't raise the $35,000? Also, the "flexible funding" policy states "This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal." Does this mean that people who contribute will receive the promised perks even if the campaign falls short? -
According to this article, a search that uncovered many of the Lansdowne series masters some 15 years ago failed to locate the tapes for Hum Dono. for a Crisis reissue.

Not a joke per se, but it is baseball humor. While announcing a game, Curt Gowdy noticed a couple who kissed each other after every pitch, saying "Isn't that cute? He kisses her on the strikes, and she kisses him on the balls."

Hidden symbols in brand logos
sonnymax replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Most of these symbols are neither hidden nor subliminal (i.e., below the threshold of consciousness), but instead are the product of creative design. Funny how some people are amazed or suspicious of intelligence and creativity. -

What's so "sad" about Stitt's Ellington set? I agree it's not among his best, but it's much more than competent and quite enjoyable to my ears. Recorded for Verve in 1960, it features a great rhythm section (the bass player you forgot is none other than Paul Chambers), and you certainly can't fault the quality of the material. Sure, it wasn't released until 1973 under the title Previously Unreleased Recordings (see below), but I think that had more to do with the sheer volume of his recording output at the time rather than the quality of the music. Btw, you had it backwards, Sonny plays tenor on three tracks, alto on the remaining five. Finally, I think you'll find that few, if any, members of this board consider Sonny to be nothing more than a "Bird imitator". That's the kind of ignorant or ill-informed opinion that you may find elsewhere, but not here.

Let's Take A Walk Inside Dusty Groove, Shall We?
sonnymax replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yeah, one Saturday a month at their "back-alley office with very low rent in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. The space is very hard to find, and was previously used as an apartment by a low-profile prostitute." I think if you visited them there, you'd remember it! No interior pictures of the store at 1180 N Milwaukee Ave. that I can find, but here's a street view of the current storefront (they were on the 2nd floor where the "Young Chicago Authors" program is now located: DG historical site. -
Are you really saving money with in-wall cables? They are generally more expensive than "regular" speaker wire because their special jacket/insulation is designed to reduce the burn rate and the spread of toxic gases in the event of a fire.

sonnymax replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
According to the website, DG moved to Wicker Park at 1180 N Milwaukee Ave. in the summer of 1997. Prior to that, they were running the business out of an apartment on the south side. They opened at their current location in 2001. So, maybe you are thinking of the Wicker Park store. -

Sadly, the Roni Ben-Hur show has been cancelled. I was really looking forward to that one. -

You're thinking of the Jazz Record Center in NYC. -
I could be wrong, but I think you're only allowed one user name per registration. PM Jim Alfredson and he'll let you know what's possible and how to do it. FWIW, I think you can come up with a better moniker than the Climate Prediction Center.
