  1. You can purchase $50 iTunes gift cards (limit 2) for just $40 online at walmart.com. You don't actually receive a physical card. Instead, they email you a code that you enter into your iTunes account, and the credit balance appears every time you log onto the iTunes store. Say what you want about iTunes, but they do carry the CIMP label catalog and other stuff I can't find elsewhere.
  2. A link to Dionne's article would be appreciated.
  3. Although distributed by a French company, Harmonia Mundi, Solar Records is, in fact, a Spanish outfit located in Barcelona.
  4. Up, for a very worthy cause. I hope more people here will take this opportunity to support a living, breathing artist. This is as real as it gets. Please give.
  5. I had a '57 Stratocaster stolen from my car while I was picking up my bass player for a gig at Berklee. It broke my heart, but I did make the gig. Lots of bluesy solos that night.
  6. Have folks taken the time to view the brief tutorial that comes with the new player, or gone to Apple's website to learn about the changes and workings of iTunes 11? I ask these questions because I noticed people on other sites expressing opinions like, "No way am I going to bother" and "I shouldn't have to study just to use a damn media player!" I think the redesigned iTunes 11 offers some major improvments in looks and functionality. The more I learn about it, the more I like it.
  7. Thanks for letting me know about Harrison's unfortunate circumstances, and affording me the opportuntity to give back to someone who's shared so much in the past.
  8. From what I gather, the 22-year-old passed away sometime yesterday, the cause of death not yet revealed.
  9. It appears that those talks have broken down, and today a bankruptcy judge is hearing the company's plans to liquidate. Funny how most reports lay the blame of Hostess's demise squarely on the bakers union, rather than the changing preferences of a more health-conscious public. Can Pork Rinds and Funyuns be far behind?
  10. At a news conference, Singleton said he had no idea at the time what Clash did for a living. Mystery solved.
  11. I'm sad to hear how this story has ended. Granted, I don't know what additional information might surface over time, but so far it seems like Clash's biggest offense is just being gay. Elmo actor Kevin Clash resigns amid sex allegation NEW YORK — Longtime Elmo puppeteer Kevin Clash resigned Tuesday from "Sesame Street" amid a second allegation that he sexually abused underage boys. A lawsuit filed Tuesday in New York by 24-year-old college student Cecil Singleton accuses Clash of engaging in sexual behavior with him over a two-week period while he was underage. Singleton said they met on a gay chat line. At a news conference, Singleton said he had no idea at the time what Clash did for a living. In its statement, Sesame Workshop said "the controversy surrounding Kevin's personal life has become a distraction that none of us want," leading Clash to conclude "that he can no longer be effective in his job." "This is a sad day for Sesame Street," the company said. http://xfinity.comca...=hero_media_bos
  12. From the auction's description: "All proceeds earned by any Hostess products sold by us will go to Toys For Tots in our area."
  13. Fear not, for you can also download them from amazon and itunes.
  14. You might also want to learn more about the PM function, unless this thread was meant to be an open and unabashed bromance.
  15. "Middle jazz" is particularly popular with this crowd:
  16. Don't miss Dave Burns' debut on Vanguard, entitled Dave Burns: And this one, featuring Dave Burns and Seldon Powell on tenor:
  17. Did someone express their opinion that you have not "moved on"?
  18. I suppose that means you'll finally be selling this baby: Dibs!
  19. I like many of his recordings, including this early one: RIP Mr. Curson, and thanks.
  20. Steve, Thanks for taking the time to come up with those corrections.
  21. Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny. Ironically, Zappa is now both.
  22. Hopefully, the difference in prices is manufacturer's list versus discounted retail. In some cases, however, retailers may lure prospective buyers to their store with an incredible deal that cannot be fulfilled in hopes that they will purchase something. Why not phone the retailer you found and inquire more about the quality of the cabinets and find out if they can actually get the product. I seriously doubt this seller, or any of the others I found offering these cabinets at the same price, have any items in stock. More likely, they order directly from the manufacturer on an "as needed" basis. Good luck.
  23. Based on appearance and product number, I believe this cabinet is made by another Canadian company: Carr McLean Some retail sites offer the following dimensions on the 3-drawer unit: 20 1/2"H x 37 1/2"L x 20"D. Although they claim it can hold 855 CDs, the manufacturer says each drawer holds 180 CDs, for a total of 540.
  24. You neglected to include these statements from the notice: The Cobalt-60 levels in the affected products are far below State and Federal regulatory limits. All of the expert testing conducted on these products to date indicates that there is no health risk to the public, to our associates or to pets. The Illinois state government did its own testing and issued a news release stating that “a person would have to hold one of the bowls against their chest for roughly six and a half days to receive a dose of radiation equivalent to a single chest X-ray,” and that “these bowls do not pose an immediate health risk.” ...very few affected items were actually sold to consumers. We are working to contact those customers to inform them of the situation and to retrieve those particular bowls....Customers who purchased these products between the dates of May 31 and June 20, 2012, should bring it to their local Petco store for a full refund. If you have any questions, please call Petco Customer Service at 877-738-6742.
