Very impressive live unit. If you have the chance take it, I'd say.

Another fan here but with some reservations that his technique sometimes overshadows the music. Enjoyed him live with Braxton (Leo CD Royal Festival Hall) first, then with Convergence Qt and also Thirteenth Assembly. Other recordings not mentioned already that I've enjoyed: both Thirteenth Assembly albums; Middle Picture (Firehouse) is possibly my favourite of his leader dates; another duet with Fujiwara on Not Two. I blow hot and cold on the Spider Monkey Ensemble with hhis sister's spoken word. Fujiwara is also very impressive, very melodic drummer (and composer) - his leader dates on 482 impress I've got that Matana on Utech and never realised Ho Bynum was on it! Think I'll give Apparent Distance a spin right now.

A great shame. He graced London with some marvellous performances over the last decade. he always struck me as someone who's generosity of spirit shone through his performance

FS/FT: The Thing with Barry Guy, "Metal" (NoBusiness)
mjazzg replied to Bol's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I'd second that - nice recording. Stimulating and enjoyable set but I can see how it's not for everyone. I found the sample on the No Business website fairly representative. -
Nice session indeed. I think I saw this band sans Bates a while ago at Oto? The violin certainly compliments the overall sound but also fits nicely with the writing, I feel Intriguing titles too, pray shed light on "MO [-Ittoqqortoormit]" or am I missing something obvious?

Shame. Appreciated his efforts. It's individual commitment like that that helps support this music

Another Rogue Art, where she doubles up with Michel Edellin "Ethiopean Princess...." is very listenable. As has been said already, Indigo trio too.

Maybe try collecting the recordings rather than the musicians themselves?

just arrived in the post. Straight on the deck. fantastic!

FT/FS: FMP Retrospective Box Set

more like on the wrong side of the Atlantic, unfortunately -
copies of Double Exposure are currently on Discogs if you want to bring the day closer

Played it today because of this thread and it is indeed an interesting listen especially because of the stylistic split of the two sides The Joe Chamber's compositions are very stimulating. Where can one hear more of his work in this vein? any clues gratefully accepted

Shipped to the UK, it's over $30. Seems a bit steep considering Chuck is shipping his latest releases for $18. Wait a month or so and I'm guessing it'll be priced on Amazon UK like Threadgill at 13.66 GBP eligible for free shipping. Based on today's exchange rate that would save you about $8. It's a two disc set isn't it? Which makes Amazon UK's current £14.94 (free shipping inc.) pretty attractive to me and I've pre-ordered and will snarl gently when the price drop Head Man anticipates occurs. In the past Amazon have had trouble sourcing the Pi releases to their advertised deadline but they do turn up fairly close to it I can never understand Pi's shipping costs, by far the most expensive i've encountered from US. I emailed them about it sometime ago but no reply

I certainly feel EP merits a biography, whether this is the one or not. http://unbound.co.uk...sity-of-purpose I have no connection with the author whatsoever. Apologies if this has been posted before.

Thanks for posting that clip, Alex. On the strength of it I went straight to Emanem and purchased Synopsis - what a terrific album. Don't know how this trio passed me by.

I've got an LP of it pressed so off centre it's unlistenable. happy to part with for a reasonable price ...cover's nice.... I thought it was too good to be true when I tracked it down on ebay for less than £20 and it was too good to be true BYG pressing? You got it spot on there

any thoughts or impressions of the McNair, especially "Flute and Nut"? I only know a reissue of "The Fence" which appears to have some tunes from "Harold McNair" tacked on as a bonus

Enjoy your trip, Bebop. I hope you get some time to enjoy London in its post-Olympic hangover -

shopping-wise London's stores have been sorely affected by online competition so youre looking at a few specialists that stock varying degrees of Jazz, listed in order of Jazz stock (not scientific) Rays Jazz Honest Jon's Harold Moores Universal Sounds/Sounds of the Universe Then there's a number of second hand and other music stores in Berwick Street that's worth a visit. I find I very rarely visit the highstreet chains but HMV on Oxford Street and Fopp on Cambridge Circus might be worth checking. The good thing is that sll these (except Honest Jons) are within a 15minute walking radius. Honest Jons is in Portebello Market which has a coupple of other non-Jazz music stores about. Gig-wise, Headman's listing should see you right. Not knowing your taste in Jazz, I'd suggest the following are venues worth investigating as well established and well thought of The Vortex Cafe Oto (my favourite) 606 Club Pizza Express Dean Street and dear old Ronnie Scotts Might be worth checking the Time Out website or buying a copy on arrival. If you need any more detail on any of the above just PM -
How I hear this album is it really highlights the contributions of Christensen and Danielsson throughout. Jarrett and garbarek are often the focus but without this rhythm section so much of this would diminish. Great release overall as likely as any other current proposal

Mo sure is a hero here right now. Alongside Ennis and Rutherford, GB enjoying a good day in the stadium rather than velodrome.

Sad news. I only know him from the Stanko but that's enough to show he'll be missed

Count me in as a fan. I've also made use of his website - very friendly service.. I first came to his music with the Silkhearts which i still hold in high regard. I haven't delved into the Diaagnim much apart from one Yells at Eels. Recent Hymn Project, Renegade Spirits and Matter of Blood all highly impressive and also display the range of settings that he works in.
