  1. Nah, he must have left his computer logged-in before he went away.....
  2. David Murray plays some cool bass clarinet on this: The track "India" is a special favourite of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=420eCLr86tA
  3. Went to see Dave Holland with Prism last Sunday at Ronnie Scott's.....very disappointing. Although the musicians (Dave Holland, Craig Taborn, Kevin Eubanks and Eric Harland) seemed to be enjoying themselves, it was the music itself that let it down. Every tune seemed to be a variation of the one before so there was very little variety. I really don't think the group works with a guitar as the lead instrument. Anyway, it was good to see Dave Holland again. I calculated that the last time I had seen him playing live was in a tiny club near Liverpool St. Station in 1968 or 69.... amazing!
  4. I have a room full of them........
  5. Like half the audience, I bet....
  6. Elf and safety would never allow that now......
  7. Arrived today. The only thing missing is the liner/insert notes. Are you certain there should be any? I'm sure my Henry Threadgill box only included the CDs.
  8. Not showing as available on their website......
  9. Very sad news. This is a nice set from Acrobat if you want to hear how good he was: Plus a self-produced album from 1959, also available from Acrobat.
  10. Quite a bit of Joni Mitchell's earlier catalogue, including "Hissing of Summer Lawns", has been re-issued as HD tracks. I'm no audiophile but to me the sound of these HD tracks is a great improvement over the original CDs.
  11. Or not use Internet Explorer ......
  12. I have volume 2. Great price, nice booklet, nice sounds. I skipped volume 1 because I already have most of those, and I believe I have everything on volume 3. I would not hesitate to buy these volumes if you don't already have the music. I have both volumes and they're excellent. Good sound and a really informative booklet. Even though I have most of what's on Vol. 3 I'll be getting it.
  13. The third volume of this excellent series is due out later in the week. Seven film scores from the French New Wave. Further details here: http://www.jazzonfilmrecords.com/store.html
  14. Ah, thanks ethorbored. No discount for buying the box then. That price of 15,000 yen is too rich for me.
  15. Do you have a link to somewhere that's selling the boxset?
  16. I'm afraid I find that a little Cecil Taylor goes a very long way....my problem, I know.
  17. Apart from the Ed Blackwell & Pharoah Sanders sessions I already have all of this. Reluctantly I think I'll give it a miss.
  18. Luckily they lost the other half of this photo. Unless that's it on his shoulder.
  19. The Gaslini's still showing at £38 on Amazon.co.uk. Looks like I should continue to sit on my hands for a while longer yet.
  20. I agree completely....my "desert island" disc, I've loved it from the day it was released and I've upgraded it at every opportunity.
  21. It would have been a Blue Note or Atlantic, possibly Jackie McLean's "Let Freedom Ring" or perhaps John Coltranes' "My Favourite Things". However the first actual vinyl I ever bought was this single:
  22. Boy, it's been a few years since I gave those two boxsets a spin. They used to be my favourite Keith Jarrett and I almost played them to death when I first bought them. I'd be interested to find out whether there's any additional music on the new boxset and whether it's been remastered. I seem to recall that some of the music on my sets is not the highest of fi.
  23. Although I already owned a number of "West Coast" albums by the likes of Chet Baker, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper etc, it was not until I read Robert Gordon's book "West Coast Jazz" in the 1980's that I realised the number of other artists that had recorded for West Coast labels. I ended up owning every recording identified in the pretty extensive discography in Mr. Gordon's book, many of which I still play regularly.
  24. Four ..... or five?
