Funny, book just arrived in the mail yesterday. Bought it for my son last Christmas, have been eyeing a copy for myself. Can't wait to spin through it this weekend.

I still have a few of the catalogs - not the very early ones, but from maybe five years on. I loved receiving those things in the mail. Pre-internet, that was how I learned of those things (plus Downbeat ads). The labor of love dimension really shone through.

Nice to listen to Gene Harris while I read this thread! I live in Kansas City and have not seen much national talent here over the years. So my sample size is generally limited to business trips to New York or Chicago. Likely my favorite show was George Coleman with Harold Mabern circa 1991 or so. We sat close to the piano and I remember being awed by the size of Mabern's hands. Great show.

I don't have my copy handy, so going from memory. No reviews, no artist feature stories (save for a lightweight piece on Billy Harper). There was a bunch of other stuff that really did not interest me.

I saw a number of Ayler boxes in KC yesterday. That is a lot of cash. As mentioned above, I feel some fatigue around paying top dollar for some of this stuff (not a comment on the Ayler per se).

I searched for it in three Kansas City stores with no luck …

Weird, I see it but not figuring out how to download. I use Bandcamp regularly, maybe need to try on my desktop.

So no trumpet on this one? Are Cook/Morris on all the tracks? Copy suggests Cook is only on one track, on soprano? Or maybe tenor on all tracks but soprano on that one? I guess all will be revealed tomorrow!
