Actually, a very nice vinyl copy of "The Greeting" from Discogs which I have somehow missed 😁
-
It is gone!
-
Thanks for posting - will check this out. Bought a cool coffee table book of his album covers a few years ago: Mati & The Music: 52 Record Covers 1955–2005 (English, Spanish and French Edition) https://a.co/d/2eJ67IY

Hey everyone - long story, but would up with an extra copy of the CD - no case. Happy to send on to whoever wants - just PM me. I have plenty of mailers lying around, no need to reimburse, just want it to find a happy home! PM if interested. Thanks

Thinking about this one, how do you like it?
-
Big second for the In Groove.
-
Yep, life is too short and the other list is too long. And, what, am I going to dig into the back catalog? 😁
-
Good news - thanks!
-
LOL, yes there is that. I put myself on a budget, spending a lot less than I used to, but enough to stay in the game 😊. Bought the Fathers and Sons record for less than $10, looking forward to it, especially the Freeman side. Check, yeah I live in KC but did not hear about that one. Like the Lied Center though!

Yes, the process is as follows: Get caught up on this thread. Go to discogs, buy stuff. Wait for package, listen, cherish and enjoy. How a 61 year old gets his kicks LOL Edit: other sub-steps: check budget, put on mental "buy list" for browsing locally. Keeps the mind limber. Kansas? Do tell!! (lived here since 1977)

Frankly, this looks like an amazing release. Not to disparage Coltrane or Impulse, but would rather hear prime Wes with solid sound versus less than great sounding Trane in Seattle or at the Village Gate. I am no audiophile, but I like to hear tone and balance and clarity and the Wes seems to have that!

There is a cut up at Bandcamp, "Four On Six". Sounds very good to my ears. Per the copy, previously unissued: Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings is the first official release of the complete previously unissued recordings from jazz guitar giant Wes Montgomery with the Wynton Kelly Trio at the famed Half Note jazz club in New York City in 1965 with drummer Jimmy Cobb and bassists Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Herman Wright and Larry Ridley. Including over 2 hours from the original radio broadcasts with host Alan Grant, the deluxe 2-CD set is mastered by Matthew Lutthans and comes with a multi-page booklet containing previously unpublished photos taken at the Half Note by Raymond Ross; plus a new essay from acclaimed journalist and author Bill Milkowski; interviews with jazz legends Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter, who both recorded with Wes; guitar icons Bill Frisell and Mike Stern; plus bassist Marcus Miller, who is Wynton Kelly’s cousin! 2023 marks Wes Montgomery’s Centennial (born March 6, 1923), and this is Resonance’s 7th release of Wes Montgomery recordings in cooperation with the estate. Now Wes Montgomery fans can hear the rest of the music from the Half Note that was only broadcast on the radio nearly 60 years ago. I love Wes and am totally in on this. Punt on the Craft reissue.

Yes, thank-you! The Mingus looks interesting. And the Wes, particularly if the sound is good. Wes a little hard for the older guy to hear under muddy circumstances. Oh and the Marion Brown. See a fews others out there: Eric Dolphy - Iron Man. https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16412 Gil Evans & Ten. https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16444 Dexter Gordon - A Day In Copenhagen (already out there) https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16334 Chico Hamilton - The Master https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16443 Black Jazz Records - Complete Singles https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16367 And here is the cover for the Wes: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16455 And looks like the year for the Bill Evans is 1964 versus 1954: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/16406

Well that is a shit-ton of copy! I have heard bootleg versions of some of this in so-so sound quality. So that will be the tale of the tape for me.
-
If they perform sonic miracles, *maybe* the CDs. But really, who buys this? Great music of course, but there are so many other things in that vast catalog that would be of more interest.
-
My goodness, I had it backwards, thanks for correcting me! Much better, wanted to hear more Wilen!
-
Looks like Barney Wilen only appears on three tracks, making this otherwise a quartet?

Sonny Rollins East Broadway Rundown - Distortion on CD?
Eric replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Audio Talk
Likewise! -
Sucker for any late period live Pepper and I like the way Omnivore does things. Wonder if this could be a future Record Store Day vinyl release?
-
Just noticed Dusty Groove has a bunch of the individual Hutcheson CDs (Japanese) for $10.99 each.
-
Picked up Closer To The Truth on Savant from a few years back. I had modest expectations, which have been well exceeded. Not flashy, very soulful, in the pocket. Tasty guitar from Jacques Lesure as well.

Sonny Rollins East Broadway Rundown - Distortion on CD?
Eric replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Audio Talk
Yeah, I cannot really get into this one either. Meandering is a good way to put it. Plenty of other deeply satisfying Rollins from around this time! -
As for Dusty Groove, I have pleasantly discovered that media mail does not take 1-3 weeks as described, but rather is on par with First Class the vast majority of the time. Chicago to Kansas City, maybe that is part of it, straight shot. This has saved me some coin.
