  1. I started with Free Lancing on Columbia. I think Rolling Stone recommended it in the early 80s 😀 I tend to like him more as a sideman than leader, but this one hits the spot for me.

    Jim Snidero

Oh hell yeah! Saw him at my one (and only) visit to the Jazz Showcase.
  3. That Select was a great example of Mosaic being Mosaic. Almost none of it on CD. Not as daring as his 60s work, but very pleasant and hits the spot for me.
  4. Ha ha. I had the same reaction (to the first half of your post).
  5. OK, very familiar with the Philadelphia record store, gave it a quick whirl. $31 (including tax, S&H) bought me this. Pretty hard-boppy in retrospect, but hey, that is my go to. Particularly looking forward to the Von Freeman Chicago CD: Robert Mazurek With Eric Alexander - Green & Blue Joshua Breakstone Featuring Tommy Flanagan And Jimmy Knepper - Evening Star Doug Raney Sextet - Meeting The Tenors N.Y. Hardbop Quintet - A Mere Bag Of Shells Joshua Breakstone Trio - No One New The Jodie Christian Trio - Reminiscing Brad Goode, Von Freeman - Inside Chicago Vol. 1. Sir Charles Thompson - Robbins' Nest Jim Rotondi - Dark Blue Christian Winther - Blue Function Ryan Kisor - The Sidewinder Tardo Hammer - Tardo's Tempo
  6. Yes, they do. I have bought a few things from them - rarely a bargain, but very good packaging, communication and fair grading. Interesting record - and yes, that is a huge number, so far!
  7. I am not a very knowledgeable classical music fan, but somehow found this one. Actually it was recommended to me at Best Buy decades ago. I enjoy it very much.
  8. How do you like the notes/photos?
  9. Yes - this is a great thread and by far the sanest place over there to discuss jazz.
  10. Pulled this out for some reason the other day. Wow - cracking band indeed. Chuck - thanks for making this happen. Really a fun/meaty session!
  11. Details here: https://www.vinylmeplease.com/products/the-story-of-impulse-records?variant=39416224907354 I suppose ... if you are a collector of these things. Nothing here that interests me or otherwise don't have. A vast catalog and hard to select eight albums and for sure, they did not select a bunch of obvious war-horse titles. But still, what coulda been ...
  12. I don't disagree with you re: the Blue Note albums. Burrell Verve would be interesting - not sure whether they have done much with Verve or have access. I decided I am a pass on the Clark. I have the key albums. Other things to spend money on ...
  13. Maybe Kenny Burrell? It seems there are some odds and ends that are trickier to find. Something of an interesting catalog - the first two kind of stand together, then the two jam sessions, the live album, Midnight Blue and the odds/ends. I might be a buyer, I love his tone and most of those albums have grown on me over the years. Maybe a collection of "one album" Blue Note artists, although I am too lazy to compile a roster. Probably a little gimmicky for the Mosaic folks. Those Selects filled so many gaps!
  14. Also on the fence, but you sure get a lot for $99. I am sure I would enjoy the booklet. I find it interesting to contrast the cost of great sounding CDs ($99 for the whole set) versus ~ $40 for the just issued Sonny Clark Trio on vinyl. And yes, the vinyl sounds great too and you get the full-sIze artwork. Without an endless supply of cash or time, just makes for some interesting choices. Still, an amazing golden period for jazz fans versus when I got started in the early 80s, not sure if there was ANY Sonny Clark in print.
  15. Sent $22 at the end of May but have not heard anything. It was via Venmo, I wasn’t sure how they pass on my address to Jim, but figured he would write back if there was a problem. Not too concerned.
  16. Oooh, I have not - love the series but have not seen that one - thanks for the recommendation. I know what you mean about the relationship between the two albums - not to dismiss "Stop ..." but greatly prefer Name ..." My first exposure to the Heads was buying "Fear ..." on cassette when I was in high school. Then bought "Remain ..." my freshman year and played it to death, still have that record (I am now 61). I love the way those songs sound on "Name ..." as well as the side 1/2 earlier cuts. Love both versions of "Drugs".
  17. Incredible!!! Bought the vinyl back in college and love the expanded CD.
  18. That was not chump change in the late 60s!
  19. LMAO at this thread 😂
  20. Thanks for this! Curious- what do you mean by HR? Thanks
  21. Wonderful - thank-you Dmitry.
  22. Hey everyone - I have the good fortune to be headed back this weekend. Thanks again for all the recommendations!
  23. Hmmm, how have I missed this thread for 16 years? 😍
  24. Yes!! Just bought the vinyl reissue and have really enjoyed it, as has my non-jazz loving wife 😊

Thanks for this - the clips sound interesting! The cover art is pretty cool too. I notice the label is in Hawaii 😀
