  1. I love his contributions to the Miles band mentioned above. RIP
  2. Jeff - just responded
  3. PM sent on Coltrane/Davis.
  4. I felt the same way – it was pretty damn thrilling! Glad you brought it up :-) I wasn't paying close attention to the band for the second song, and my first reaction was wow Arcade Fire can really rock out :-) I agree that the lyrics on the Jagger presidential song were lame. But… I thought Jeff Beck was smokin' with his guitar. Great evening all around for rock 'n roll!
  5. Happy Birthday Chuck!
  6. never heard of this series, but did a search and came up with this
  7. Just ordered Gleam from DG ...
  8. There is a ton of 80s-era live Pepper out there, but this is one of the very best. Great sound too!
  9. Sounds pretty encouraging, all things considered.

  14. Same here ... I can still remember the UPS truck delivering the first Monk set back in 1985 or so ... Christmas present to myself Very much looking forward to this set ...
  15. I'm considering purchasing an automated ripping station for my 4,000+ cd collection. Most products are for professional use and cost well over $1000. The Acronova Nimbie NB11 pictured below is less than $500 and allows you to load up to 100 discs at a time. Most likely I would sell it on eBay or a computer/audio board after ripping my collection. Very interesting. Curious - what other models did you compare this with?
  16. looks there are a couple of interesting jazz exclusives - a 10" inch sampler from the upcoming Bill Evans record (see separate thread), a Miles sampler and the lp version of the new Branford Marsalis record ... http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home
  17. for those hitting Record Store Day tomorrow, there is a 10" blue vinyl sampler from this record being made available ...
  18. Turns out she was one of the top horse breeders in the world, all funded by the fraud. Apparently she took twelve weeks of unpaid vacation in 2011 (in addition to four paid weeks). So she took off 16 weeks in 2011 and at some point during her absence, her replacement detected the fraud. Most people who commit this type of fraud rarely take time off, for obvious reasons. How in the world did she think she could skate by for sixteen weeks??? Disgusting, yet rather fascinating.
  19. these are showing up at amazon as imports for $20 ...
  20. Yeah man, could not agree more. To a certain extent, this board fills a bit of the void many of us feel ...
  21. Don't believe the Horizon lps have come out on CD. The three Atlantic lps from the 70s were reissued by Wounded Bird a couple years ago. Much better music on the Horizons however.
  22. couple of my early exposures to jazz ... the Blakey was on cassette!
