  1. living in KC the last 25 years, I could not agree more we went from packing the house with 99% KC folks whenever they came to town to maybe drawing 15 - 20,000 when they show up, but worse, 2/3 of those folks are pulling for the Yankees fuck George indeed!
  2. I don't know how the Texas schools feel about all this, but speaking as an alum of one of Big 12 North schools (KU) living in Kansas City, I am glad to see this outcome. The thought of KU, Mizzou and K-State (all of whom have strong fan bases in KC) winding up in different conferences was depressing to say the least (as was the thought of losing the Big 12 bball tourney, which will be in KC for three years running). It is rather interesting how (in the short run anyway), a school can make more with 10 versus 12. At the end of the day, we don't lose much in terms of sports tradition (no change in bball, sorry to see NU go in fball, and w/c about CU).

Looks like Wounded Bird is reissuing the Atlantics -Serengeti, Infinity Is and With Sound Reason in August.
  4. My thoughts exactly ... finally get to hear what all the fuss is about
  5. Wish I'd have known so I could have driven by and snatched them
  6. I also noted that both iTunes and amazon have this one (the first incarnation of VSOP) - cheaper at amazon, plus you can cherry-pick tracks http://www.amazon.com/V-S-O-P/dp/B001FL2E4S/ref=pd_sim_dmusic_a_3
  7. Likewise. With a Little Luck is a polished turd at best, but the rest of it is really very pleasant.
  8. Yep, that was me. Still missing ... although it all came out on individual CDs or the Select I believe ...
  9. Hey Paul ... congrats ... lot of long faces in your old neck of the woods!
  10. I totally agree. That's what I was getting at, not as clearly as you did, several posts back when I said "he leads the audience into cheerfully accepting extremely brutal on-screen violence as great fun because it's against the bad guys." You're right, he found just the right scapegoats (universally condemned, symbolic of all that is evil) on whom to unleash his own sadism. "Whose side are you on, me or the Nazis?" also in agreement found myself enjoying things just fine, but had this uneasy feeling 5 minutes after I walked out ... spent the next two hours trying to make the above points to my friend who attended with me
  11. I am too far from MN, but these things are great cabinets - have owned several for years.
  12. Nice on both fronts ...
  13. so where does one go to hear more of Leon Rhodes???
  14. Yeah, the Brooks was my 2nd set too ... to me, that is what Mosaic was/is all about. Talk about the thrill of discovery!
  15. Indeed ... I remember getting Monk 001 for Christmas in 84 or 85 ... and 30+ big sets (hey that is less than 2/year!) and 20+ selects later, I can report that unlike the vices above, the 30th hit is just as good as the first
  16. I bought both High Energy and Skagly and would give Skagly the slight edge. Neither are perfect, but the overall group sound is a little cluttered or unpleasantly dense on High Energy. Skagly reminds me somewhat of the stuff Woody Shaw was putting out on Columbia at the same time - and is closer to Super Blue than High Energy is.
  17. Wonder if Wounded Bird had access to said High Energy new masters for their recent issue?
  18. Small world - was there Friday on business and bought the last one
  19. I picked up Odyssey of Iska. The packaging has a bootleg feel to it - the cover colars are washed out, the print is less than crisp, tha paper is of a lower quality and the booklet had been previously folded in half. The CD itself also has a "less than professional" feel to it. The music itself sounds fine. Setting aside scarcity, I think $15 a unit is way too high, but I guess I paid it. A good way to fill in the gaps of your collection I suppose, but I would feel a little better paying $5, maybe $6.
  20. Huge to both!
  21. I have not anticipated a Mosaic set as much since waaaaaaaaay back to set 106 (Tina Brooks). This sort of thing fulfills the Mosaic vision perfectly. I only have one of the lps and cannot wait to wrap my head around the rest of this music!! That is if I can overcome my voting history and truly grasp what I am listening too ...
  22. Yep, those too. And Kansas Wildlife and Parks, kind of a local version of National Geographic
