  2. Heaven on Earth by Larry Young - came out in the last year or two - can't recall the re-issuer offhand (have it at home)
  3. Only know the answer to your 3rd question, to which the answer is yes.
  4. Doesn't this mean that some Amazon Marketplace seller is making CDRs and selling them? Has Amazon transferred rights to manufacture CDRs "on demand" to select Tom, Dick and Harrys? Seems questionable to me but I guess its kosher. I thought they had contracted with (a single) 3rd party to do this for them, but I could be wrong. I have bought a couple of these over the past year (?) or so. Sound-wise seemed fine, but you could tell on the graphics. Kind of raises an interesting question - do you download somewhere or get the CD-R (both through legal channels of course)? All things being equal I am a "physical media" kind of guy, but this seems to diminish when the physical product is "not quite" the real thing.
  5. thanks for the recommendations guys ... just found a good home for my Barnes & Noble gift card

    Junior Cook

Cook is on three of these (all but the 1969 date). A few sound issues on one of the dates (keys, not horns), but otherwise they smoke. Very much worth hearing. http://www.wolfgangsvault.com/freddie-hubbard/
  7. Jim (and/or others) - any suggestions on the Steeplechase material? There is more than just a little out there ...
  8. http://jazztimes.com/articles/29128-resonance-to-release-lost-wes-montgomery-tapes-in-march and http://www.amazon.com/Echoes-Indiana-Avenue-Wes-Montgomery/dp/B006O4OLV0/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1324453148&sr=1-4 Sounds pretty interesting - from the guys who did the live Freddie Hubbard set last year.
  9. Yep, still slumming' on the Kansas side ... I have been fooling them so far ... much to my amazement. Need to find another small company/start-up where I can make a difference ... I keep failing the Steve Jobs test when I look in the mirror every morning
  10. Hey Bill - thanks for the kind wishes with the Jayhawk touch! Spent much of the weekend in Lawrence with family ... does not get any better than that!

Hope all is well - Eric

  11. Yep, still slumming' on the Kansas side ...
  12. Ahhhh, thanks to all of you and Bill in particular - I love it! This was the big 5-0, so I celebrated by catching the KU basketball game on Friday night, the KU football game on Saturday night and then we drove to Salina (home to Acoustic Sounds) to see Lindsey Buckingham. Had my kids, my girlfriend of 8 years and her kids ... it was a great time. And to top it off, I was presented with the new Wes Verve set this am!!! It does not get any better
  13. I believe this is worth reading ... http://joeposnanski.si.com/2011/11/10/the-end-of-paterno/#more-8533

  15. I saw this on ebay in the "buy it now" area for $8 the RUSSIAN edition of The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard record is NM
  16. Most people/companies really only have one great idea (if that). He had at least 3 or 4. That is almost impossible. I also found his Stanford comments very moving. They are to be read again and again.
  17. So say the notes! Yes, it is included.
  18. Here you go ... 1. It All Comes Back To You (OA Gumbs) - 10:14 - This was on the original lp, but excluded from the Columbia reissue of several years back. So unissued on CD. 2. Watership Down (Clint Houston) - 13:48 - Unissued 3. Solar - 16:20 - Unissued 4. On Green Dolphin Street - 16:01 - Unissued 5. Days Of Wine & Roses - 13:40 - Unissued
  19. I've got it and aside from a couple snippets of the unreleased Vanguard material, I have not listened to it. I will say that the booklet sets a new low for being incredibly hard to read - tiny font and often set against a background that essentially makes it disappear. Or maybe I am just getting old.
  20. Hey, I am in Kansas and agree with what you are saying. It was inspirational and also interesting to learn the role of family in his life.
  21. my best friend was a DJ at the student radio station in Lawrence ... I had him play "Chronic Town" straight through so I could tape it off the radio loved that band ... glad their last couple albums were decent and all the IRS re-issues have been great
  22. Several people I know are doing this (substituting Roku for the PS3, but same difference). If you really have to watch something live, well that's what bars and friends are for
  23. I like the cover art. It is also nice how they sequenced it ... no album "bleeds" over to the next disc. The last 3-4 songs on disc 5 define "filler" (the "with strings" versions of the Half Note tracks ... guess you need 'em to be "complete")
