The too many standards/war horses thing gets me too.

Economist - for years - and have given 5-6 gift subscriptions too.

80's underground jangle-pop fans take note!
Eric replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Funny thing is that for a long time some band members allegedly looked down on FABLES (with Bill Berry, no "allegedly" about it--he once bluntly stated that "FABLES sucked"). I don't think they had a very good time recording the album, which may have influenced their earlier opinions about it. I really like it and enjoy Joe Boyd's production work, which I think is perfect for darker-atmosphere songs like "Feeling Gravitys Pull" and "Auctioneer." Fables has become my favorite end-to-end REM lp. -
Always thought his Columbia years would make a nice Mosaic Select. Or the James Blood Ulmer Columbias from the same time frame, although there was not enough released material for a Select.

Two points that I keep coming back to: 1. Somebody is lying their ass off. Common sense says it is Clemens. But whoever it is, they are really, really fabricating some serious BS at this point. 2. For me the bototm line is this - there does not appear to be a credible reason for McNamee to lie, emphasis on the word credible. But if he is, he will go down as the most vindictive nutcase in sports. So what seems more credible - that McNamee is a vindictive nutcase or that Clemens used steroids. Again, common sense says McNamee is more credible. I have always been a huge Clemens fan (even dragged my kids from KC to NY last summer to witness his return). If he did use steroids, the great irony is that his place in history was secure before he did so - just like Bonds. Common sense also says there is no way the physical evidence will "prove" that Clemens is lying, at least in the "beyond a reasonable doubt" sense. It will be interesting to see what Congress does. They are being jerked around in a very major way by one of these two guys. It would sure seem they don't appreciate being played for the fool and will go to some length to get to the truth. One of the more fascinating sports dramas of late.

No problems here. Definitely my "preferred" Amazon Shops seller!

I am a KU alum and K-State took it to us. Beasley and Walker are men among boys. These guys will be very dangerous in the NCAAs. PS - You are correct - we had not lost in Manhhatan since I was a junior at KU - and I am now 46!

hey - that is pretty cool - thanks!

... what is "album only on iTunes? Mentioned before in various posts, but this is very annoying. I am sitting at work, want to listen to the song Crescent. Of course it shows up on several Coltrane albums. but all of them as "album only".

True, but don't plan on reading any of the notes on the inside - too small - no booklet.

CD Universe has this coming out Feb 19th!
-
I agree, if you had to get one or the other, the Village Vanguard is the way to go. One of my all-time favorite boxes and a nice booklet. Think I will listen to it tonight

I am 46 and always go for the CD unless something is only available online. I like the cover art, the notes and I like being able to take something out to the car. My 15 year-old has a sizable music collection ... almost 100% digital.

Groove Yard Records

Great article. I used to travel to the Bay Area quite a bit and would always try to stop by. What a friendly knowledgeable guy Rick is! I also found his business experiences - particularly with Japanese fans who would stop by the shop and buy tons of lps - very interesting. I am happy to see he is still making a successful go of it. -
Rolling Stones to release new album on Universal, not EMI
Eric replied to GA Russell's topic in New Releases
I am more disturbed by the first part of the message. -
Yes, I've had a few bouts of funkiness lately ...

Yes, iTunes has it for $7.92.

Although I am stuck with a PC, both my father and son have Macs, both on Tiger. I am their "unoffical" systems administrator, although I am not a tech person (don't have to be with a Mac!) Anyway, would you (or others) mind to describe a couple virtues of Leopard that you have found useful - I have been trying to decide whether/when to upgrade the two of them. Plus side: I really like the way Time Machine works. Previously I had been using Retrospect Express for backup, but if I ever want to grab one thing that gets deleted Time Machine will make it so easy to do so. I was slow to use Spaces but it's not bad. You may or may not find it useful. The Finder cover flow is also something I've used more than I thought I would, though I don't use it that often. Negatives - Well, it broke my older edition of Photoshop Elements (2.0). Many older Adobe programs have been hosed. I believe it's because they took the carbon rather than cocoa route, but don't quote me on that. A new version of Elements comes out in late spring, and I still have a G3 with Panther on it so I can still use the program on the old machine. I've also sometimes had kernel panics when running Azureus (bit torrent program.) I've read it relates to the program, the fact I'm using a laptop and wireless, and other things. Weirdly it only happens in spurts, like for a few days every 3 to 4 weeks, then it'll cure itself. Makes very little sense. Check again to make sure you there aren't any programs that you rely on that may break, as that's probably the most important thing. Also, for an insanely in depth review of Leopard, see Arstechnica. Nobody does reviews better. Wow - very comprehensive. Thanks for the info and link.

Letter From Evans

Wow - that is pretty damn impressive!! -
Hmm, I thought that adult males do not get much beyond ties and t-shirts I received an Amazon gift certificate from work and used it to grab the above-mentioned Futurama Vols. 3 & 4. Among my other favorites was one of those coffee-table sized books on muscle cars (of course I have decided that I need one, in addition to a jukebox and pinball machine!)

read the blurb about 10% of prostate cancer "accelerates rapidly" - might be what he had (my father has it) kind of scary - not to preach, but go see Dr. Jellyfingers guys if you have been delinquent

definitely not a 2 star record ...

new recordings - that IS a tough one we have no record stores in KC that stock any kind of jazz (aside from Borders et al) you are correct - used to be you browsed, then Jazzmatazz came along and we were all happy (and broke) now I feel that I am missing new stuff I read the reviews over at All About Jazz - that provides some window into the newer stuff
