  1. I went to the IRS website and gave an account # for deposit. I believe this sped up the process. The IRS website also has a link for tracking your check.
  2. Idle Moments. Also, no standards, but check out Mark Zubek’s Horse with a Broken Leg. A lot of noirish sounding cuts there.
  3. Happy birthday Larry, and thanks for interesting and insightful posts.
  4. I have a soft spot for the session released at some point as Kenny Burrell All Day Long as it was one of the first 50 or so jazz records I bought. I picked up Earthy and a couple of the others when the label was sold to Concord and a bunch of titles were available cheaply. I loaded up thanks to reading about it here.
  5. I wear a mask if I go somewhere that will bring me into contact with people. When my wife and I go for an afternoon walk I bring a mask but don’t generally put it on. Here in a Rhode Island the state is beginning to allow more no-essential businesses to open starting tomorrow. I work as an independent agent servicing the Medicare population. I have an office but I will not be having client meetings there for the foreseeable future. Any 65 or older person who is willing to come to my office is probably not someone I want to come in. Insurers are already implementing processes that allow for remote enrollment. My busiest time of the year is from October 15 through December 7 (Medicare Annual Enrollment Period). That coincides with what is expected to also be a potential next wave of COVID-19 spread. I’ll be likely working remotely until there is a vaccine.
  6. Dmitry, if I remember, you moved to the East Bay. Here in the West Bay Dave’s Markets consistently have fewer shortages than Stop & Shop, albeit at a premium. Not so much as the prices at Whole Foods. My wife won’t go shopping and tries to restrict me to once every 10 days or so. I’ve actually lost about 10 pounds since the start of lock down, more related to more walking than what I’m eating though.
  7. Unlike most of the people here I’ve seen very few live shows. The year I graduated from college, 1978, Konitz played an afternoon gig at the Marriott in Providence. I don’t remember anything about the rhythm section, I assume they were local. Herb Pomeroy joined in to make it a quintet. I remember enjoying it quite a bit.
  8. Pm sent re: Ron Carter/Houston Person and a Ted Nash.
  9. My wife would, well, she wouldn’t kill me, but it wouldn’t be pretty either.
  10. I’m using YouTube TV and have Roku’s on three tv’s around the house. No land line and I am self employed with a home office so the cost of internet is tax deductible for me. Changing channels is something that quite bothers my wife but I’ve made the adjustment and I can’t see ever going back to cable.
  11. Currently watching season 2 of The Good Fight, thanks to the free month of CBS All Access. I guess I’ll also be taken no advantage of the free month of Showtime also.
  12. I hope this the right forum. Recently I watched a pretty good documentary on Paul Butterfield called Horn From the Heart on Netflix. Can you suggest other documentaries on jazz or blues musicians you can recommend? Thanks in advance.
  13. Sending positive thoughts. Good luck to you both.
  14. Pm sent, hopefully just under the wire.
  15. Jazz Mass by Joe Masters featuring Harold Land and Anthony Ortega.
  16. I have a disc of Lockjaw Davis and Johnny Griffin from Seattle dated 10/10/62. Haven’t heard the new release so I can’t comment about how it compares.

  17. Thanks for the post, I will check this out.
  18. Bill Frisell, solo, at an intimate theater in East Greenwich, RI. He had several pedals and used loops judiciously. Also played an acoustic interlude including a stunning workout on Moon River. I get out to shows almost never so this was quite a treat. The experience was marred somewhat by an annoying buzz in the stack on stage right.
  19. Happy birthday, 61?
  20. Most of my magazines have survived the last two moves, much to the chagrin of my wife. Really though, I’ll grab a random Cadence for a diversion but I almost never reach for the others. If I do get rid of my magazines I’ll still keep the Cadence issues. Prior to a move in 2017 I managed to sell a few magazines, mostly issues of Musician from the 1980’s, based on who was on the cover over at Audiokarma.
  21. Concerning new vinyl releases, I can’t bring myself to spend $18-$40 or more on a new release when it is likely to also be available used as a cd soon enough. If someone is releasing something as vinyl only, for that kind of scratch, I can do without it. Particularly when I can pick up used records in great shape most often for $4-$12 or so at my preferred shop in Providence. Fact is I’ve got more records and cds than I can get to anyway and my collection is not exceptional, around here I am just another guy. I started buying records in the ‘70’s and I’ll still grab one here and there if I see something that strikes my fancy but nowadays I am buying ridiculously devalued cd’s when I see something of interest (the latest cd I bought was $.50 at a library earlier this week). I still play records but play cd’s a lot more. I’m lucky to have fallen in with a group of people who share the music and gear fascination and we get together periodically, share a libation, and let the world slow down enough to enjoy some tunes. I don’t begrudge buyers or sellers of new vinyl issues, it’s just not for me. As far as playback, Porcy’s comment hits home with me the most, I want non-fatiguing as the most important virtue in my system.
  22. Yes it was, thanks Dan.
  23. I know this is somewhat pathetic to revive my own Happy Birthday thread, but, I’m shameless. Sixty three today.
  24. Heady Topper, its still a winner.
