Smoke Jazz Club rises from the ashes after pandemic shutdown

They have Billy Harper tonight and I’m watching it on live stream. He looks better at 80 than I do! -

We are all different. I wear hearing aids (been doing so for about four years), which has greatly improved my music listening. Just earlier this week I got a new cartridge. My dealer said I would notice the difference and I have. However, there is a point — at least for me — where I am content with versions of CDs that I have and don’t need to have multiple versions of the same recording (for which I have no room anyway). I know, of course, that people will differ with me on this. Speaking of room, I hadn’t catalogued or put on the shelves about 100 CDs that I must have purchased in the last year or so and am finally getting around to it. That means about 100 must go and I will be offering them here as soon as I finish (about two-thirds of the way there). Apologies to Dan if I detracted from his sale.

I guess I’ve gotten to the age where I’m fine with what I have, plus as Kevin noted I’m not sure my ears can tell the difference. At one point I was upgrading where I could. After purchasing several Tone Poets or Classics, I’ve pulled back on those if I already have it in cd. Of course if I don’t have it, then I will buy it. However, as other noted, your prices are really good.

Most of us have this in one form or another, which is probably why they haven’t sold.

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

It’s not my favorite CSN but still like it. -
I tried reading White Noise once but didn’t find it particularly interesting and I don’t usually give up on fiction. I tried watching the movie (20 minutes) and that too did nothing for me

The 70 team was the best ever. If you didn’t see them play you can’t realize how good they were. The final against Italy was total domination.

Johnny Griffin-Eddie Lockjaw Davis "Complete Sessions"
Brad replied to Gheorghe's topic in Recommendations
This is one of those gray market releases, not based on the original tapes. According to Discogs, it’s a mixture of Jazzland and Prestige: Tough Tenors Griff and Lock The Tenor Scene Live the First Set Live the Midnight Show Live the Late Show Looking at Monk Blues Up and Down This one is good, sort of in the same vein: Johnny Griffin and Eddie Lockjaw Davis Quitent – At Onkel Po’s Carnegie Hall – NDR Info (N 77046) Not Davis and Griffin but Davis and Shirley Scott but Craft is issuing this next year: https://craftrecordings.com/collections/eddie-lockjaw-davis/products/eddie-lockjaw-davis-cookin-with-jaws-and-the-queen-the-legendary-prestige-cookbook-albums-4-cd -

She knows how to play but from what I know she did get commercial, trying to be more of a crowd pleaser and appealing to a wider audience (not that there’s anything wrong with that). I believe there is a thread or two about her.

This Japanese seller, Jazzbluesjapan, who sells on eBay, has a lot of good used jazz. He describes what he sells pretty well. He tends to have a lot of BN and Prestige. I’ve used him a bit and he ships everything DHL. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185714465812?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=CLw6lga9Qa2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=8Clsqs3wSRS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

What I find a bit amusing is that some listeners felt the need to create a separate thread because they wanted to keep the TP thread positive. Seriously?

I’m almost done with the first season. By the way, have you seen Spiral. That is probably one of my favorite all time shows.
