  1. Sure, just let me know when that blessed day is
  2. I'm having an alzheimer's moment here, but what of the recordings made by the student from Columbia in the 40s, such as the Charlie Christian Jazz Immortal release on OJC, that also included a Dizzy session at Minton's.
  3. I've got a few Reservoir cds and obviously Dr. Sunenblick is well known. It's probably thanks to him that the Town Hall concert has come to light.
  4. Yesterday was my birthday and wasn't expecting anything special as a gift. Usually in the past, my wife will ask me what I want and she'll get it for me. I didn't ask for Mosaics this year. So imagine my surprise when I received the Basie Mosaic yesterday. I don't know how she chose it but she sure knew what she was doing. I wasn't shocked that I received it but that she picked one, a good one, without even asking for input. I guess all this listening must have rubbed off on her, whether she liked it or not. It made for a great day.
  5. After sticking this into the computer a couple of times and getting rejected, the computer won't even recognize the disc any more.
  6. I called Mosaic and the Selects are due in about two weeks.
  7. Yeah, me too! ← Ditto. Don't think any of those are going out for awhile. Wonder what will be the first Select to do so.
  8. Happy Birthday Marcus from a fellow October 5ther
  9. Thank you all for the wishes. Well, I've reached the double nickel, 55, more traumatic in the run up than the actual day Hoping to celebrate later this month with a couple of the new selects.
  10. If it's a lower price, that's attractive. I assumed I'd have to pay throught the nose.
  11. Welcome back, missed not having you post.
  12. I missed this. When was it on?
  13. I had thought of this this morning before I saw this thread and for me it's Diz Bird hands down. Bop was still in the process of development whereas although Coltrane might have been in the development of his sound his music wasn't. Plus, while this is a great find somehow I've heard it many a time from Monk and Charlie Rouse. To me, the Town Hall concert is much fresher and newer. Love them both however. BTW, what is this fund drive Dan and GOM are doing. Haven't been on the board too much lately so I may have missed something.
  14. I believe Ratliff done a couple of these and it's good to see them. Maybe it'll make some converts.
  15. O. Keepnews mentions that in the liner notes, which were more of a recollection of Bill Evans than liner notes. However, I thought they were very effective. This was my first time with the complete material and I'm loving it too.

    Bob James

In the mid 70s before I became interested in jazz, I was interested and had a few of his albums including Touchdown. Also had the George Benson, Earl Klugh, etc. kind of material. I don't think it's the kind of thing I'd want to listen to today but it was fun. At the time I thought it was jazz but I know better now.
  17. Ok, I looked at my calendar and it's not April 1 so what gives?
  18. It's kind of a weird question because we're all his disciples in one way or another. I'm sure there are few musicians out there who can say they weren't influenced by him.
  19. I'll be getting both of these. Even with McMaster, it's better than not having it at all.
  20. Looks like he might be the kid from the Omen.
  21. I haven't gotten this one yet. How does it compare to the Golden Flute?
  22. I bought this even though I had most but not all of the material and I'm with you on this David. The sound was nice and of course the music great. I must have had it in rotation in my car for about two weeks. I think it's the best box of this kind they've produced.
  23. In their most recent newsletter, which I received yesterday, Peter Crawford, SteepleChase's US distributor (773-862-8573 and email: stateside@prodigy.net) has announced the following, available today: SCCD 36036 – Dexter Gordon Quintet “Stella By Starlight” Featuring: Dexter Gordon (tenor saxophone, Pony Poindexter (alto saxophone, vocal), Kenny Drew (piano), NHOP (bass), and Makaya Ntshoko (drums). This never before releases final program of the Montmartre broadcast series from 1965/66 finds “Long tall” Dexter in the company of his old friend from his days in California, “Little” Pony Poindexter. UPC# 716043603626.
  24. It's entirely possible and I've seen this happen when looking at other people's feedback that he might have gotten sick, or been able to communicate. Buyers (myself included) are not the most patient of people.
  25. Dave, Hope you're not just going to Ohau. I found that island a disappointment, nothing compared to the bid island or Kauai.
