  1. This is a hard one. The two Teagarden sets for sure. Love the Blakey 1960 set. And then probably the two Basie Roulette sets. gregmo
  2. Back Home in Indiana gregmo
  3. Me too. Seeing it this evening. gregmo
  4. Happy, happy, there, Lon!!!
  5. Decided to order this one from Dusty Groove. New Rosolino is always a must for me. gregmo
  6. Hope really does spring eternal! gregmo
  7. The Hodges Verves, damn it. The Hodges Verves!! gregmo
  8. Yeah, I wondered when I saw the news about the Benedetti set whether we'd see the Wilson. Hope, hope! gregmo
  9. Yep. I thought exactly the same thing. I'm wondering seriously whether we'll see that promised Teddy Wilson set. gregmo
  10. Kaplan rushes past this period in his otherwise thorough two-volume biography. I get the impression she and his kids got along VERY badly. What was the story there? gregmo
  11. Someone REALLY needs to find out about the Goodman set for Jim! gregmo
  12. Yeah, I love ALL the Terry/Brookmeyer things. That was a great group! gregmo
  13. Well, I *am* a Hartman fan, and I don't think anybody ever sang "I See Your Face Before Me" better than he did on the Bee Hive date. I have just about everything he ever recorded (it's not too hard!), and I think this is his best--even better than the album with Trane. I'm with John in liking me some late Touff too. All that said, a lot of the sessions on the Bee Hive box are the kind that would get "three stars" from Down Beat reviewers, in the sense that they're listenable and often fun, but not necessarily essential. But how many sessions we enjoy fit that high standard? gregmo
  14. While we're on the subject of J.J. and Kai, does anyone have the very last LP they ever recorded together, "Stonebone"? It was the third of their albums for A&M/CTI. From the very little I've been able to find out about it, it was only issued briefly in Japan. Always been curious to hear that one! gregmo
  15. I was also on the fence, which is why I didn't order it until the "sky is falling" message came out. I'm looking forward to listening so I'll know which side of the fence I *should* have fallen off of! gregmo
  16. I think maybe we ARE their "other" customers! Me, I'm just happy the Clifford Jordan came back so I could get one...whenever it gets here. gregmo
  17. Yes, that one was reissued on cd: Manufacturers of Soul The comments on Amazon claim to have bought "How About This?" on cd, but site doesn't list it, so I have no idea about that one! How About This But "Half a Sixpence" is new to me Jim! Is it any good?! gregmo
  18. "Happiness Is" apparently charted off of the album, reaching some mediocre number on the Easy Listening charts. I didn't even know there WERE Easy Listening charts! I'm still wondering about the whole cd thing, whether this one ever came out on cd, and whether there are any other Basie albums that have never yet made it to cd. gregmo
  19. So, is this album (without which my Basie collection will not exactly starve) the only Basie *studio* album that has never been issued on cd? Even for five minutes in Japan (like "Basie's Beat")? Or has it been issued, and I can't find it? I have to confess that I sort of like pieces of it. There must be others? It is on youtube, for those who want to sample it: Basie Swingin' Voices Singin' gregmo
  20. Me three! I wasn't sure I'd ever see that one. gregmo
  21. They should, but many college libraries, in particular, have suffered horrific cuts in their acquisitions budgets over the last decade. gregmo
  22. Disc One (I'm reading Basie's Autobiography and listening as I go!)
  23. Very cool. Thanks for posting Jim! gregmo
