  1. Hank d'amico, Bob Hardaway , Aaron Sachs and a Max Bennett ( basic numeracy error that's 4 not three!)
  2. Another JVC release "Brilliant Corners" is also excellent. Both have stunning sound.
  3. I realised how few of these titles I had in any format. I pulled the trigger on a three which will make their way here from the Orient in due course. Quite a number of these sessions are on spoilify and sound merely average at best. Missed out on the Nichols ( at a sensible price) although I have the Charly edition from 1989 ( it sounds pretty good - but I've never heard another version ) Oh , for those lost tracks ! Maybe one day. Now that'd be worth celebrating.
  4. That's why I've been sticking ordering from Mosaic. Legendary customer service including replacing a defective disc in one set many years after purchase.
  5. do I need to get that Jazz Crusaders set.....?
  6. I'd go for the full Ellington band Mosaic first, then probably the Hawk. Sadly, they are all good sets
  7. This question is of most relevance with living artists as they produce new work. You either stay with them on their journey or give up to some degree. Like Jeff it's David Murray. Around 1990 I got into him heavily getting around a dozen CDs or LP, most were DIW which I got as they came out but some were back catalogue Black Saints. My infatuation turned to complete boredom as soon as I'd seen him live in 1993/4. Not sure what turned me off but I've not been moved to return. I keep meaning to re-evaluate what I have but there always seem to be higher priorities.
  8. The Vogue material sounds vastly better on my French Vogue CD compared to the Mosaic vinyl. I guess that only a 2nd or 3rd gen. tape can have been available to Mosaic. The rest of the Mosaic set sounds excellent.
  9. Another good one from Kenny. I've yet to come across any duds. His ECMs seem particularly good.
  10. Barry Harris. ---------Chasin' the Bird------(Riverside) stereo Very fine trio date.
  11. Urbie Green -----------Septet--------(Blue Note) 10 inch Toshiba. Pleasant music if nothing startling. Other than Green and Jimmy Campbell the rest of the band are unknown to me. Everyone plays well on this soft-bop/swing date.
  12. Freddie Hubbard-------"Goin' Up-------(BN Music Matters 45) Perhaps my favourite Hubbard although it's a tough choice between this and "Hub tones"
  13. Mal Waldron--------All Alone---------(Globe) Interesting Japanese issue of solo date from Milan in 1966. Mal has his new style largely in place. I'd never heard of it until I picked this up yesterday but then he was prolific!
  14. Marion Brown------La Placita, live in Willisau------(Timeless) Japan Rec 1977
  15. Juhami Aaltonen---------Etiquette -------(Love Records) 1974 rec. Free jazz from Finland featuring Edward Vesala
  16. I've still got unopened discs from last year's sale!
  17. Picked up 4 nice mint LPs in a charity shop in middle England at the weekend for £3 each Hal Russell- NRG Ensemble ( Nessa) - already had the CD but compulsion to rescue a Nessa from the bargain bin got the better of me. Just like the CD it sounds spectacular. Joyous accessible free jazz. next Waldron/Mclean - Left Alone 86 ( Paddlewheel)- slightly pedestrian IMO Byard/ Riley ----- Live at Royal Festival Hall ----- (Leo) part solos part duets, perhaps less adventurous than I'd expected but very nice none the less Finally..... Buddy Collette -----Flute Talk---- (Soul Note)
  18. Sad news but he was some age. The date with Grant Green on BN and Live at Peps CDs were my first exposure. I must confess to not having heard any of his post Atlantic output. The Golden Flute indeed.

    Herb Geller RIP

That Geller Fella - nice guy , graciously signing my CDs when I saw him about 15 years . Love his playing across a wonderful career.
  20. Mal Waldron/ Marion Brown---------Songs of love and regret ---------(Freelance) Wonderful 1985 recording (digital) , presumably 16bit given the era and yet sounds very full and rich .
  21. Joseph Jarman----------'Song for'------( Delmark) stereo . Excellent LP all the better for being supervised by Charles Nessa -
  22. As I recall my copy was good as was my impression of the music . I share your frustration as Increasingly I'm wondering if the knowledge to press vinyl properly has been lost. Audiophile companies do ok but most non audiophile vinyls have sounded very average.
  23. It's hardest for patients early on, they have insight and can see what's coming. Later the burden is with family and friends as they witness all facets of what made the patient an individual fall away. Hopefully Horace is happy , not in pain and being well cared for.
  24. I've the LP so the DL will contain the CD material as a bonus.
  25. Robert Pete Williams & Roosevelt Sykes------ Blues from the bottoms----- (77 records)
