  1. I'm really looking forward to the latest volume in the Bootleg Series, due in October, covering 1989-2006.

    ECM Touchstones

Honestly, with the ECMs, there's not much to go with the "physical" part - just the artwork. No liner notes or anything that can't be easily found on places like AMG. I mean the disc itself. I don't trust hard drives or CD-Rs.

Well, I really hope they resist going to downloads only. What an awful way to acquire music! Give me the entire physical product please.

Saudades is one of my favorite recent ECM discs too. Yeah these reissues are packaged in cardboard so flimsy that I bent two of them just taking the shrinkwrap off!

At Borders today I picked up Jarrett trio Standards Live, DeJohnette Special Edition, and the Kenny Wheeler Gnu High. Total of $20 and change with the 40% Borders coupon. These are definitely budget reissues, it's a non-remastered disc in a very thin cardboard sleeve with the original album art printed on it. Not even a digi-pak. Good, cheap way to get a lot of this music that I didn't have a chance to get the first time around.
  6. Too bad you missed the box set Yah. I'm kind of bummed, but ... that's the way the old box set bounces sometimes. I hear there's a store in California that still sells it, out of print or not.....

  8. I've been out of it for a long time. What's the Tyler?

    Anthony Braxton

I don't know much about criticism or reviewing, but I do know that I like this new one a LOT.

    Anthony Braxton

Wow. I was way off. I had it closer to sop-RANIN-o. Good thing no one heard me. On the last tune now. This album is very good after one listen. I don't always get Braxton (actually, I doubt I ever do), but this one sounds like he was absolutely on fire for the session. Most of my Braxton listening recently has been the GTM stuff, so it's good just to hear him with less density. My only problem with this new one is the singing that someone is occasionally heard doing.

Got it @ Borders today. Haven't listened yet. Man. Your Boarders is a lot better stocked than mine! ... I went ahead and ordered from squidco. Looking forward to it. Be interested to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to spin it over the next couple of days. I was surprised. We have three Borders here and two of them actually had this on release day! Listening to the first tune now; seems like an epic sopranino (how do you pronounce that, anyway?) solo so far, with lots of pushing by the drums. It just sounds great, too. I've heard a lot of detail in the percussion

  13. Belew said that they may do another short tour next year, but as always with Fripp/KC, there is no plan.
  14. what's the dvd all about? Never saw that documentary
  15. Used bins. I've only been able to find the Duets title in the used bins around here.
  16. so what about The Complete Braxton then? Not included? Where can I get it if it won't be in this box?
  17. Nobody? I play beach volleyball. Last night there were another 300+ people playing beach volleyball on the other 10 courts throughout the night. Six nights a week, in my small town, that many people are playing beach volleyball. Whether they care about it while they're playing, I can't say, but I'd be willing to guess yes, based on their competitiveness. Everytime its on tv, I stop and watch a few points, maybe a game, maybe a match, depending. Maybe no one in Ann Arbor cares about beach volleyball except during the olympics. If you think nobody cares about these sports, you should do a google search. They all have major websites with major advertising and major community involvement. Nobody cares about organ jazz either you know. Yet, here we are, shooting the shit about the Olympics. Whoa, my mistake, I guess 300 people do make a difference! And are these people PLAYING or WATCHING? We're talking about watching the Olympics. Who cares if people are playing. Different argument. Serenity Now. Jeez.
  18. Never did care for the Olympics, other than hockey in the Winter Olympics. I don't get it; no one cares about beach volleyball or the shot put except during the Olympics.
  19. I always thought this was common knowledge

I'm still trying to comprehend that Iridium set. I've only really listened to the first half of it (about 5 CDs). I love the wide variety of instruments but it is hard to digest even one disc at a time.
  21. Great news, Chuck. Thank you!
  22. Man, I watched Braves games for years (right up until stupid TBS dumped them this year for even MORE national broadcasts of the Red Sox) and I never heard anything like any of this! I had no idea Sutton didn't like Skip. Anyway, what a great loss. This has been one bad year for the Braves
  23. come on, Chuck, when?? I'm dying to send you some money!
  24. At least this will get that idiot off the daily national Red Sox broadcasts
  25. I knew nothing of Torn until I got Prezens through BMG for $6-something. Immediately I thought of Robert Fripp. Is there any connection between the two, besides the Levin/Bruford bands? Torn and the band from Prezens will be playing the Edgefest in Ann Arbor this October; I think I'll check them out
