I'd agree the Farlow set is an essential purchase. I don''t have the Smith or Pass sets but I have a few albums from them by both. They contain some very nice music but I feel that I have enough - they don't dont excite quite like Tal.
Alan Bates told me that when he was in the process of buying the Candid tapes he was told that Williams 'was not up to the leadership role'.
Not sure how this affected the outcome, if at all, it's a nice enough session.
I got 'Proof Positive' when it first came out too. Still love it and it has very nice vinyl sound. Neo remains one of my favourite Johnson performances. Somehow I never got around to getting the cd so I've missed the extra track. Certainly never heard the 45 tracks.
Definitely make a fine cd reissue.
I'm afaid this one didn't do an awful lot for me, a big disappointment as I expected a lot from it. Somehow the band didn't seem to gel to my ears, Martino was particularly disapponting.
Casual birder too. Not much in the garden but the nearby mud flats/salt marsh are always interesting. Wintering Brent (Brant) geese, curlew, oystercatcher, and now with global warming, egrets. Countless other small shore birds too.
