  1. Happy Birthday Jim.
  2. Very sad news. Clearly a courageous man.
  3. Monk with Coltrane at Carnegie Hall got the most plays. Can't say it was a vintage year.
  4. Four out of ten.
  5. Many happy returns; have a great birthday. (edited for typo)
  6. Running low on nominations for AOTW again. A few more volunteers are needed to start new aotw topics. To keep things in order simply PM me and I'll be happy to add you to the list. John

The Verve albums are terrific, collected on Mosaic they are essential.
  8. Highly recommended. My Japanese vinyl was hard to come by so don't miss this cd issue in case it doesn't hang around too long.
  9. Agreed, a nice set. Sound shouldn't worry a WM fan.
  10. Quite a few where licenced from Japanse labels. Pressing quality wasn't that good unfortunately.
  11. Saw a photograph once. Must have been as experience to see and hear all those guys playing together - mindblowing is right. What was it 40 plus musicians?
  12. Definitely my problem.
  13. I was playing the Gene Ammons Jam Sessions the other day, all vinyl. I thought at the time they would be nice collected together. Can't see that there would be a lot of enthusiasm for the set though. Great music imo.
  14. I like this one too. The fact that Sonny moves about doesn't put me off at all. Anyone who saw him live around this time will have seen Soont wander on playing and stroll around the stand. It's a nice reminder of Sonny on stage.
  15. Lovely stuff, this is Lee's best period for me, tremendous excitement and enthusiasm.
  16. Wonderful record. Best source is direct from Ayler Records. Quick and reasonably priced.
  17. As Christmas albums go this one is okay by me.
  18. More sad news.
  19. Most of what's been said before. Most of their recent recordings have featured an augmented quartet, you might find these interesting. The last two 'Experience' and 'Political Blues' both add bass and drums (plus other guests) on some tracks and I think this enhances the listening experience.
  20. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
  21. 80s MCA pressing? The mid-70s pressings sound pretty good on the whole, to my ears. No first UK EMI pressing. I'm comparing with just played US mono issue of Illumination.
  22. Elvin Jones/Richard Davis; Heavy Sounds. (UK Impuse stereo-sounds pretty horiible)
  23. I still have my original Impulse mono vinyl. Soundwise it sounds great to me. Not really a blowing session, more a series of features for individual soloists. It's a tasty date but rather short. Three stars from me.
  24. Only once and a while ago, I sent Euro notes and the cd turned up in two days. Unbelievable considering it was on overseas transaction.
  25. I've not heard a later George Russell album which compares with any of his pre 1962 things (Beethoven Hall excepted). Some aren't too bad but they don't do much for me when compare to his the Riversides, Decca and RCA recordings. The originality and excitement seems to be missing to my ears.
