BN Discog question ive never heard before
clifford_thornton replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Discography
Arista did this too... 1998 (or $19.98) on the spine of Anthony Braxton "Four Four Orchestras." -
Was J.R. Monterose over there yet in '67? He was working with Bennink, Jacobs, and René Thomas by '69 (heard on J.R. Monterose is Alive in Amsterdam, HSM 1502). His duo with Bennink on "Sonnymoon for Two" is incredible, one of the best sax-drums duos on record. I'm glad for Flurin's annotations. I have the boot files but haven't listened to them in awhile -- was saving my anticipation for this set, which I had to get a replacement for anyway. So far I've relistened only to LP1 and didn't find much to complain about. Reverb isn't a big deal and I'm not really stressed by speed issues. The Arnhem sessions audio-wise didn't bother me on first pass last month, but agree that they lopped off a bit of rhythm section interplay. That's too bad, because as we know the Europeans weren't just along for the ride.

She played some of it on Kieran Hebden's show, archived here: https://www.nts.live/shows/neneh-cherry/episodes/neneh-cherry-5th-june-2018 "Black Elk Speaks," whooooeee... oh, and looks like it was NTS, not the Beeb.- 103 replies

yeah, Fales has a number of musicians' papers. Bill Dixon's archives (including tapes) are there as well. Looks like NYU must be getting some extra funding for the Hemphill project, too. Very enticing.

Just noticed a post of his the other day. He was indeed a very cool dude! -
Wow, that'll be great. Also can recommend Sarah Hennies' Spectral Malsconcities for those into "new music."

yeah, there's the Lacy/Cherry split session. Neneh has the Don Cherry for sure, and has played it on the BBC.- 103 replies

Oliver Lake seems to be in that camp as well, although for the most part when I've seen him in recent years he's stuck to the alto.

I'm getting staggered glitches after about 11:00, digital scramble, in both streaming and downloaded versions.
-
sadly only the first track is listenable; the rest devolves into digital fuzz. Probably burned onto a disc that rotted. Bummer.

HA!

I've grown to like Brent, even his songs.

whew!

that's really cool.

The end of The Jazz Standard in New York.
clifford_thornton replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
absolutely. Most of my neighborhood's bars and coffee shops/small restaurants are done and will not reopen. Some of these were particular favorites that served the neighborhood on a real first-name basis, leaving friends of mine without jobs. Much of this could have been subsidized for survival, but I guess that's another discussion for another thread. -
