  1. NYC is in the same boat, in addition galleries, museums, and most stores have shut down. I would not be surprised if we get some sort of rolling stay-home orders too. I work for a nonprofit as an archivist. I can do some of my work remotely, but getting out of the rhythm of going to my office sucks. Our work relies in part on a summer program for resident artists that sadly I see being cancelled this year. I don't know what will happen as a result. Also, though I'm in my 40s and reasonably healthy (exercise regularly, don't smoke, don't eat too much garbage), I think the danger to people under 50 is grossly understated.
  2. But that Kenny Rodgers/Rogers is/was a woodwind player, not a singer or bassist.
  3. NYC is such a massive city, but I'm kinda shocked more isn't on lockdown thus far. It would be smart to do so. My work is still open although it's a small office and has little public interaction. Would not be surprised if things like the WFMU record convention are postponed; Vision Festival is in May so things will probably/hopefully look less dire by then. Hard to say.
  4. damn, that's too bad. He's great.
  5. Yeah, I saw Tyner less than a couple of years ago with Bartz a.o. and he was certainly frail but could still play. I was glad to have seen that concert.
  6. Count myself very lucky to have seen him a few times. RIP to a true original.
  7. Wish I still owned a copy of that record!
  8. Toshiyuki Miyama, yes. I like most of what I've heard.
  9. May the schwartz be with you all. Hope everything is much improved afterward.
  10. yeah, I have originals but they should certainly be reissued. there is also a bootleg of alternates from the Rough Trade album.
  11. Indeed, that's beautiful.
  12. I haven't read Tell Me When It's Over but I want to. Love the music but what knowledge I have has been picked up from snippets along the way. I'm a little young to have experienced it firsthand, unfortunately.
  13. Opal and Mazzy Star were absolutely great; it was later that I got into Rain Parade (whose first LP rules). https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/feb/26/david-roback-mazzy-star-hallucinatory-guitarist-still-sending-pop-into-a-dream could see the Lana Del Ray thing but never really cared for/about her music. Psychic Ills are another, better contemporary sapling. RIP, and thanks.
  14. http://www.ravensingstheblues.com/weak-signal-rolex/ Weak Signal are very good
  15. So sorry to hear about this. I can't imagine what you're dealing with; sending all the love I can muster in your direction.
  16. Amazing. The interviewer, Steve Silverstein, is a friend, musician, and excellent recording engineer as well (mostly in the rock/experimental realm). Operated the short-lived noise LP label Wodger, really nice imprint.
  17. yeah, that is really too bad. Young.
  18. I spin records daily, just not always syncing up with my internet message board usage...
  19. cool, good to know! need to revisit, as it's been years since I regularly spun it.
  20. Pharoah made some disco moves in the late 70s too, if memory serves. On Arista, maybe? I tend to avoid that era of his music, as well as some others'.
  21. Damn -- RIP.
  22. I am sure it will sell but I can't see buying this myself.
