  1. RIP -- enjoyed his playing with Jackie McLean, Robin Kenyatta, et al.
  2. The CMIF (New Haven AACM-inspired organization founded by Wadada Leo Smith, Bobby Naughton, and Gerry Hemingway) and CMS Woodstock (Karl Berger/Ingrid Sertso) are the subject of saxophonist/scholar Sean Sonderegger's dissertation: https://wesscholar.wesleyan.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1095&context=etd_diss
  3. Chin is rad. I hope LB and MH can collaborate in some way!
  4. Sad news. He was/is great.
  5. He was the best. Really gutted by his sudden departure.
  6. yeah, this and Olduvai are pretty cool.

    Circle

Would be a challenge for Braxton to dip back into the original Circle aesthetic himself, as his music has changed quite a bit in the last 49 years too.
  8. He's busy on Instagram. Seems to be doing great.
  9. Used to watch this constantly as a kid on a dubbed VHS tape. I love it!
  10. Haven't spent much time with post-1972 Wilen. Moshi is the latest LP I have in his discography Recommendations?
  11. Happy Birthday! Hope you're spinning something fitting!
  12. yeah, SAJ I think was a split between Gebers and the artists as far as costs, can't remember all the details. The sub-labels do differ in content and also accounting lines!
  13. this was under Helma Schleif's administration of FMP. The divisions of FMP were partly due to artists' pay-in, and smaller sub-labels like OWN or Uhl Klang were basically imprints where artists could use FMP's distribution and manufacturing for material that would otherwise have been self-released. I think the artists bought in with these smaller imprints, whereas to have something on FMP did not require such a buy-in.
  14. yeah, this was originally on O'Be (Orville O'Brien's label). It was also issued on Mercury in Japan.
  15. yeah, shipping to the US is probably pretty expensive, I'd gather. I don't mind forking over for the set itself, but if they gouge like another $150 to ship, I don' think I could justify it... christ, $125 to ship. Wonder what Royal Mail certified would be?
  16. I am hoping to be able to get the LP set. Have a bunch of this stuff on CDs but those are in storage and some have gotten a bit scruffy with age, so... would be cool if Dusty Groove carries it.
  17. Mats's collection is pretty stunning. Hope in a couple years to bring everything out of storage and get it all better arranged before I get tired of it and sell it all!
  18. Sad news.
  19. Got the book but haven't read very far. To be honest, the print is quite small and I need new glasses.
  20. Eftsoons is the only Nessa I don't have. Need to rectify that.
  21. Saunier is a fantastic drummer, by the way, though I have yet to hear this particular stuff. I'm sure he's on fire.
  22. also more than likely bootlegs...
  23. for a second I thought it might be a Circle reunion, but alas...
