I will check it tonight as I just got the disc this weekend. What was the deal with "weird track" at the end of Dialog? I have the pre RVG version of the CD. One thing about the RVG's is that they are really loud!, especially when you go from a RVG to say vinyl. Obviously going from Vinyl to CD its expected but with the RVG's its really noticeable. I think with the RVG's it depends on the system you use to gage what your response is for them. The topic of loudness has been addressed before with these so I won't get into it here. My take is for the Car and the Ipod they sound great, for sitting in front of you home system it might be too much depending on what you have.

Soulstation1's DIY Keg System For My Crib
WorldB3 replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
For the last two months due to allergies (I guess, it was the only beer I could taste) I was really into the Anerdson Valley IPA and the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. I think I need to take a break from them though because I had the hardest time finishing a 90 Minute IPA the other night and I love them. -
I am only up to the 65 Newport Jazz Festival but its already one of the best books I have ever read on music. His story on the 64 Blues tour in Europe was something, his take on the current condition of Blues at the end of the chapter was spot on. I should finish this in the next day to two as I can't put it down. Up next:

Bud needs to go away and die, he already gave us a canceled world series and having the 7th game be decided by an exhibition game, not to mention the unbalanced schedules do to inter league. I am sorry but Bud is the last person I want to hear saying or trying to do anything about the integrity of the game. He, the owners and players union damn well knew about of all this back in the mid 90s. Spare me.

i like The Awakening a lot, so a Mosaic of the Impulses wouldn't be such a bad idea. Love "The Awakening", "Tranquility is also nice and I am sure there is more great stuff from the tapes that didn't get on Freeflight and Outertimeinnerspace that would make a nice little box set. All they have to do for me to buy it is give me a remastered version of Extensions from the Argo label in 65 to replace my old vinyl, everything else would be a bonus for me.

Thank you for the review, I was hoping someone here would go and report back, I so want to see this trio. Even better that its getting recorded by ECM. Hopefully ECM won't sit on it for a year before its release. As always I will be keeping an eye for any upcoming releases by you as I really enjoyed Play and Air.

Part of it is that people love to take down others that are more successful then them, also for whatever reason sports fans who love the NFL don't care about roids but hold baseball to higher standard. The other people making the biggest fuss over this are the sportswriters who knew about roids as far back as the mid 90's and either didn't do their jobs by missing the story or being too chicken shit to report it. As much as I don't like the players that lied about cheating (or got ahead of players that were honest) I dislike even more the writers who looked the other way reporting the issue then and now feel they have a moral high ground to take on Bonds, McGwire, Sosa. Guess what guys you were part of the problem also.

Word. and how.. "They are looking in the wrong places," Canseco said in a text message to The Associated Press. "This is a 25-year cover-up. The true criminals are Gene Orza, [union head] Donald Fehr and [commissioner] Bud [selig]. Investigate them, and you will have all the answers."

Comes down to that he is still under contract for nine more years with the Yanks, any thought ARod may have had of not confessing were not an option with management.

A great piece by Bruce Jenkins today on A-Rod. One of my favorite writers hits it out of the park this morning on this issue. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/threed...=35581#comments

I take it deeper than that. There are kids taking the stuff that are getting college scholarships over clean high school athletes and while the minor leagues test we know there are several players that made it to the show over others that were clean. Catching a couple of the big fish that are tainted doesn't mean its safe to eat everything out of the pond so to speak. In some ways its worse that fans paid money to see guys like Marvin Benard who took roids and still sucked, I would rather support someone who got there clean and at least tried their best.

I like her voice on that record, at times I want a little more tempo and tension in the music but I agree for who she is and for the material she tackled, to do it with the spare production was brave on her part.

Are you joking? Sure for some roids but did you really think it was only bulky power hitters? Look at cycling. What is the main reason they do it? Recovery! where are the main muscles that are used in cycling and also in pitching? I would guess half the bullpens in MLB have used something and I would be more surprised is Cal Ripken didn't dip during his all time games played record then if he did. It also helps with eyesight which means even a lean muscle guy like ARod would benefit when seeing the break/rotation on a 90 mph slider. Back to the HOF you can't pick and choose who you think or know who did what, you either throw out the Roids argument or nobody from the whole era gets into the hall.

The ECM site says the other vinyl release this month in addition to the Rava and Jarrett is Jimmy Giuffre 3, 1961.

DP8 and 11 are both great starting places. Two of my all time favorites. For 77 Dicks Picks I got to go with #3 for closing sequence of Estimated to Dew. Doesn't get any better.

It goes even beyond the audience, I have a friend who saw him do a solo concert at Oberlin many years ago and after intermission he had the piano tuner come out, he wasn't happy with the tuning, bitched the guy out and started to tune the piano himself. Someone from the audience yelled "sounds good to me asshole" where Jarrett said "only at Oberlin" and walked off. Despite how much I love his talent I have yet to see him live as it always seemed like a high risk or high reward type of proposition.

Despite how any of us feel about Bonds the tests were given under an agreement of confidentiality and should be thrown out.

I was a bit all over the place, good post. As far as the character thing its hard to say who was using and who wasn't. As far as the grand jury you are correct.

The "we" that's doing the punishing isn't the same "we" that was in denial though. Not in the sense of the government but the way the writers are approaching it and the way they will use it when these players come up for HOF voting. If you were a sports writer in 1998 that saw both McGwire and Sosa who both had their hat sizes doubled in recent years and with acne climbing all over their backs and wrote how they were healing the country with their home run chase I don't feel you have the right to come back to me and say their records are tainted and how from a moral perspective you can't vote for them to be the hall. The fans I am little more forgiving but as a long time A's fan I can tell you with McGwire it was obvious and he was not the nicest person to the press or the fans at least during his time in Oakland.

Aside from lying to a grand jury which is serious stuff, taking steroids in of itself in my mind isn't a crime because there were no victims. Selig and all the owners knew about steroids but looked the other way because "chicks digged the long ball" and they were making tons of money in gate receipts. The fans had a great time being entertained. If they players were criminals then the players union, Selig, the owners, the fans and ESPECIALLY all of the writers who didn't do their due diligence and report the facts to the public that roids has been rampant in the sports since at least 1988 are all in a way accessories to the crime. Sorry, I can't get behind the mentally of we need to punish you for something we were in denial about. If you want to stop roids and protect the kids then start testing at the high school and college level more rigorously in addition to the pro level. Making an example of Bonds and the Rocket won't do a damn thing.

Listening to Lanquidity right now, I love it. Its one of those albums where I could see the connection for it would make you want to start a band with others that loved it as much as you do. I use to go see him in the late 80's whenever I could but the only other Ra I have is Jazz In Silhouette. I look forward to picking up more records from this thread. Any advice on where to go next? I was thinking maybe Nuclear War and Super - Sonic Jazz.

I have to confess that the brunette with the curly hair is still etched deep in my brain... ah yes, they would always do the close up of her blowing into the camera.
