"Andover is geographically isolated from other towns and the inbreeding here is of the highest quality. The chavs cannot afford to travel and the next town is a good 20 miles away so is well beyond BMX/scooter distance. This place is worthy of study as the Galapagos islands were to Darwin."
Very true.
From Gillingham, Kent:
"Her boyfriend will probably be called Dwayne or Tyrone etc who by this time will be staying at Her Majesty's pleasure".
Didn't realise they were into Messrs (Duane) Tatro and Washington down there. It can't be all bad !
Tony Kinsey 'Thames Suite' (Spotlite). Fine big band with Ronnie Ross, Derek Watkins, Keith Christie etc. Tribute to the river - recorded by the BBC for 'Jazz Club' (sounds familiar - I think I caught it at time of broadcast).
'Caramba' gets a definite 'yay' from me. The first side is very funky with a very heavy Billy Higgins backbeat. Nothing profound but hugely enjoyable on its own terms. This and 'The Sixth Sense' were the first two Lee Morgan albums I got my hands on.
I like it. It tends to get 'panned' quite a bit around these parts and there's nothing earth-shattering on there but this is a good, swinging Liberty-era Blue Note set. Of course, Foster remains a very under-rated man on the tenor.
Maupin in great form on his UK tour recently - quartet with Munyungo Jackson on percussion.
The Cheltenham performance (which I caught) was broadcast by BBC and is available on 'dime'.
