  1. That's my favourite of the Mulgrew Novus albums. A very good one ! I caught the band with Wallace Roney and Steve Nelson when they were touring this material back in 91/92ish. Good, thoughful compositions and a class band.
  2. I got a copy some years ago for £5 (blue cover) and have yet to read it !
  3. They seem to be taking a while to get over the Atlantic at the moment Clunky but don't worry, I'm sure it will turn up. Just been notified that my Stitt and Pass are at a main branch P.O. on the South Coast via Sweden with some customs to pay ( ) but at least I should be able to pick them up tonight. It'll be a Stitt-tensive weekend..
  4. What's a Scorpio reissue? MG I think it's one of those current US BN vinyl reissues that you see a lot of in the shops over here for £10.99 or thereabouts. Never heard one though.
  5. One of the few brass players to find great inspiration in and to build positively and individually on the legacy of Booker Little ! Still playing very nicely at NorthSea this year, in tandem with Norma Winstone. Hope they tour the UK again soon.
  6. Wynton Kelly 'Kelly Blue' (Riverside stereo)
  7. Sad news. Saw him just the once with Mingus Dynasty and he held the fort pretty well indeed. RIP.
  8. Wonder when they're due back? Preserved finds of trees, protected by sediment, are not uncommon finds by divers along areas of the South Coast, providing evidence of this ancient land bridge. In fact certain areas such as Isle of Wight were connected by land bridge until much more recently, I believe.
  9. Interesting... surely not TP originals in mint? Very scanty information, suspect these must be TPs of Classic reissues, perhaps? A few photos would have helped in the listing. Anyway, I'm broke.
  10. Scorpio Killer Frank Serpico Al Pacino Al Porcino Don Rader Bill Chase
  11. Yep Daniel, I don't think this one had 'ear'. My 84231 is NY USA but no ear, hence from the 'Liberty' period. Sounds pretty nice tho'
  12. Incidentally, this is one Blue Note where I've never heard a very good copy of the original mono LP. There seems to be a distortion problem with this title that is not present on the stereos. Stereo is the one to get. Now back to the RVG CD ..
  13. They can be very variable, in my experience (a bit like New Jazz in that respect - when good they are very good. When bad they completely suck). I've had more luck with the UK pressings, to be honest. I think some of the very early ones came out over here on Parlophone and these are probably the best of the UK versions. Very heavy vinyl.
  14. The Singing Detective Kojak Stavros
  15. I've just checked the original stereo issue of the LP and 'Aquarian Moon' (I'm assuming that is also the first track on the CD) is clearly in stereo, with Joe Chambers clearly on the RH channel. Strange..
  16. Enoch Light Victor Sylvester Mantovani
  17. Blue Mitchell 'Out of the Blue' (Blue label DG........wait for it.....(drum roll)....... Riverside' )
  18. The UK Riversides were produced by 'Interdisc' for Riverside and don't have the flat edge - however the early ones have nice heavy vinyl (I have a 'Sounds of Sonny' that is in this category). These can sound superb in the mono pressing. The later ones have the blue label and lighter vinyl but again sound good and have original laminated cover art. I have a 'Kerry Dancers' by Johnny Griffin that is in this category that I'm sure sounds as good as the US version; it is magnificent. The great thing was, it only cost £5 !
  19. Woody Shaw - 'The Iron Man', 'Love Dance', 'Stepping Stones' Miles Davis - 'Agharta', 'Get Up With It', 'On The Corner' Gil Evans - 'Plays the Music of Jimmy Hendrix' John Surman/John Warren - 'Tales of the Algonquin' Mike Westbrook - 'Metropolis', 'Citadel/Room 315' John Taylor - 'Pause and Think Again' Neil Ardley - 'Symphony of Amaranths', 'Kaleidoscope of Rainbows' Lee Morgan - 'Live at the Lighthouse' Pat Martino - 'Impressions', 'Live' RR Kirk - 'Rahsaan Rahsaan' Clarke-Boland/Getz - 'Changes of Scene', 'Off Limits' Cedar Walton - 'Eastern Rebellion 1 - 4' Chet Baker - 'Broken Wing' Lots of great jazz from the 1970s..

    Ken McIntyre

Yep, not to be missed !
  21. Freddie Roach 'All That's Good' (BN NY USA mono)
  22. Duke Jordan 'Jazz Lab Series Vol. 1' (Signal mono)
  23. Indeed ! What a shame he didn't live to see 80; however he crammed more into 40 years than just about any other musician. Long may his music reverberate ! I'll spin a healthy quota of Coltrane today (starting with 'Mating Call')
  24. Tadd Dameron/John Coltrane 'Mating Call' (Prestige 50th St DG mono)
